Diego Simeone denies Paulo Fonseca's "Italian" claims

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone denies that the Spanish club play like "an Italian team in a Spanish championship".

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has dismissed Porto manager Paulo Fonseca's claims that the Spanish outfit play like an Italian team.

Ahead of Tuesday's Champions League meeting, Fonseca described Atletico as "an Italian team in a Spanish championship".

However, Simeone has claimed that his team do not operate under a particular style of football.

"We play to win. We don't play under the identity of any particular country. We understand football as a game to win. I wouldn't restrict myself to one country because I don't think it's fair," he told AS.

Atletico have won all seven of their La Liga fixtures this season.
