Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson says that there is "no way" that Gareth Bale faked an injury following Charlie Adam's foul on him last week.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson has rubbished claims that teammate Gareth Bale faked an injury during last week's high-profile bad tackle by Charlie Adam.

Bale was substituted at half-time during Spurs' 0-0 draw with the Reds in Baltimore on Saturday after being fouled by the Scot earlier in the game.

The Welsh winger then left the stadium wearing a protective boot. However, he managed to score and play 74 minutes as the London club beat New York Red Bulls last night.

"There is no way Gareth was faking it," said Dawson. "If you saw his ankle you would see it was badly bruised."

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has said that he is "extremely relieved" that Bale will be fit for the start of the new season.
