Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given credit to Steven Gerrard for remaining loyal to Liverpool throughout the prime of his career.
The 34-year-old will bring down the curtain on a 17-year career at Liverpool when he joins MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy in July.
During the years, Gerrard came close to joining Chelsea, and manager Jose Mourinho revealed last week that he also tried to sign the midfielder while he was coaching at Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
However, the Merseyside-born footballer rejected numerous advances and admitted that his decision to join LA Galaxy was partly down to his refusal to represent a team who would play against Liverpool.
When asked about Gerrard in this morning's press conference, Wenger said: "He is a fantastic player and he has remained loyal to his club for his whole career. You don't see that a lot, especially for that kind of quality player he was."
Gerrard's final game at Anfield is against Crystal Palace this Saturday.
