Jack Wilshere: 'England need Danny Welbeck for Euro 2016'

Jack Wilshere hopes that his Arsenal teammate Danny Welbeck will be fit for Euro 2016 because England "need him".

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has claimed that England will be dealt a blow if Danny Welbeck's injury rules him out of this summer's European Championships, which get underway in France next month.

The striker limped off the pitch in the first half of Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday after injuring his knee.

The extent of the problem is yet to be confirmed by the Gunners, and England manager Roy Hodgson will be waiting anxiously for the results as he prepares to name his 23-man squad for the Euros on Thursday.

Wilshere, who recently returned to action after spending around eight months on the sidelines with a broken leg, is keeping his fingers crossed that Welbeck will be fit for the tournament.

On Instagram, the midfielder wrote: "Best feeling in the world to get some minutes yesterday, however not the way I wanted to come on! Hope Danny's injury is not too bad we need him for the euros! Thanks to the @arsenal fans for my amazing reception I've missed you all year! #AFC."

Meanwhile, reports have claimed that Hodgson has opted to include Wilshere in his squad, despite the 24-year-old having made just two substitute appearances this season.
