Dermot Gallagher: 'Everton's Jordan Pickford lucky to avoid red against Spurs'

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher says that Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was lucky to avoid a red card against Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher has said that Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford could have been handed a red card in Sunday's fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton had been trailing by a 3-1 scoreline when Pickford launched into a two-footed challenge on Dele Alli, only for the whistle to have already been blown for another infringement.

The half-time whistle followed soon afterwards, but Gallagher feels that the England stopper was fortunate to avoid being dismissed for the tackle on his Three Lions teammate.

Gallagher told Sky Sports News: "I thought at the time that this is a red card. I know the whistle has gone, but that is why I think it is unacceptable.

"If you watch, you see that he went over the top of the ball and I think that Dele Alli does him a massive favour. Even though the game has stopped, there has to be a sanction for that."

Spurs went on to register a 6-2 victory at Goodison Park.
