Ronaldo makes 'final' Al-Nassr contract decision that impacts Club World Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly decided to sign a new deal with Al-Nassr and reject the chance to play at the upcoming Club World Cup.

The Portuguese legend is 40 years old, but he is still showing signs of life, scoring 25 goals in the league in 2024-25 and ending the season as the division's top scorer.

In fact, the forward has netted 74 league goals for Al-Nassr in just 77 games, and his decision to join the Saudi top flight helped pave the way for numerous stars such as Sadio Mane and Ivan Toney to make the switch from Europe.

With Ronaldo's contract set to expire on June 30, he has been linked to a number of teams that are set to participate in the upcoming Club World Cup this summer, and it would not be surprising if he looked to move elsewhere considering he is yet to win major silverware since moving to Saudi Arabia.

Bournemouth are said to have lined up Quentin Merlin as a replacement for Milos Kerkez amid interest from Liverpool in signing the left-back.

The Reds made their first addition of the summer transfer window on Friday when the club announced the arrival of Jeremie Frimpong, who is seen as a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Frimpong is boss Arne Slot's second addition during his time at Anfield, and he looks set to spend significantly in the summer after only bringing in backup winger Federico Chiesa in his first two transfer windows.

Liverpool are expected to be in the market for another full-back to take the place of Andrew Robertson on the left side of defence, with Bournemouth's Kerkez strongly linked.

Ten Hag 'targeting' two United stars in summer as Amorim looks to rebuild squad

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag on October 27, 2024
© Imago

Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has reportedly decided to target Antony and Alejandro Garnacho as he looks to reinforce Bayer Leverkusen.

Following the departure of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, Leverkusen turned to the services of Ten Hag, who was sacked from his role in the dugout at Old Trafford in October 2024.

Ruben Amorim was appointed in his place in November that year, but after failing to qualify for Europe and finishing 15th in the Premier League, the current head coach may not be granted the funds needed to rebuild his squad.

The Portuguese faces the prospect of having to sell a number of stars in order to raise money for summer purchases, though players such as Garnacho and Antony are out of favour and would not necessarily weaken the squad should they depart.

After falling out of favour under Enzo Maresca at Chelsea, Chilwell decided to join the Eagles on loan in the January transfer window in search of regular first-team football.

The 28-year-old England international was brought in by Palace boss Oliver Glasner to provide competition for Tyrick Mitchell in the left wing-back position.

However, Chilwell started just two of his 11 appearances across all competitions for the Eagles and was an unused substitute in the club's FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.

The agent of Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane has suggested that contract talks with the club are heading in the right direction amid links with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Both North London giants are believed to be monitoring the Germany international's situation, as he could leave the Bundesliga champions on a free transfer in the upcoming window as things stand.

Even though Sane will celebrate his 30th birthday next year, the opportunity to sign a player of his calibre without paying a penny to Bayern is one that neither Arsenal nor Spurs are likely to pass up.

The former Manchester City man has produced 61 goals and 55 assists from 220 matches for Bayern Munich over the past five years, having departed the Etihad for the Allianz Arena in 2020.

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is reportedly facing at least two months on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on an Achilles injury.

The 29-year-old spent the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Ipswich Town after falling down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium under manager Pep Guardiola.

Phillips started 14 of his 19 Premier League games for the Tractor Boys, but he was unable to help the club avoid an immediate relegation back to the Championship as Kieran McKenna's side finished in 19th place.

The England international was left out of Ipswich's final three top-flight fixtures due to injury and the Daily Mail claims that he has now gone under the knife for an Achilles issue.

The 30-year-old's future has inevitably been called into question following Man United's worst-ever Premier League season, and Al-Hilal have been accelerating their pursuit in recent hours.

The Saudi Pro League giants are understood to have held productive talks with Fernandes's camp earlier this week, while the player himself is also seriously considering a move to the Middle East.

As speculation surrounding his next career move rages, Fernandes started Man United's 3-1 friendly victory over Hong Kong on Friday, playing the first half before being replaced by Toby Collyer.

Manchester City striker Divin Mubama is reportedly wanted by Ipswich Town this summer.

The Tractor Boys returned to the Premier League for the first time in two decades this season but suffered an immediate relegation back to the Championship.

Unlikely to be plying his trade in the second tier next term, Liam Delap is close to securing a switch from Portman Road to Chelsea's Stamford Bridge.

The striker netted 12 goals during his maiden top-flight campaign, a record which has seemingly spared him of second-tier football in 2025-26.

The Canada international will be one of the most high-profile free agents on the market when his deal with the 2020-21 Ligue 1 champions officially runs out at the end of next month.

A Premier League move has been mooted for David for some time now, and it was claimed earlier this month that Arsenal were at the head of the queue to capture the 25-year-old.

Spurs and Man United have also been keeping tabs on the Canadian's situation, though, while Chelsea and Liverpool were also linked with a cut-price move earlier in the transfer window.

Delap's modest clause came into effect after Kieran McKenna's men were relegated from the Premier League, and Chelsea have beaten six other interested clubs to his signature.

The former Manchester City man will now prepare to undergo his medical and sign his contract with the Conference League champions, where he will compete with Nicolas Jackson for the number nine spot.

Exclusive: Parlour delivers firm warning to Arsenal over striker situation

Arsenal may need to sign two strikers to win the Premier League title
© Imago

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has warned the Gunners that their striker crisis from the second half of last season should not have been allowed to happen, and their lack of depth must be addressed if they are to push on for major honours next year.

Mikel Arteta's also-rans had to accept a second-placed Premier League finish for the third straight campaign in 2024-25, while also failing to add to their trophy cabinet in the Champions League, FA Cup or EFL Cup.

Arsenal went into the season with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus jostling for position up front, but the pair both missed the end-of-season run-in, as the former tore his hamstring while Jesus ruptured his ACL in January.

As Arsenal failed to bring in a new number nine during the January window, Mikel Merino had to fill in up front for the majority of the second half of the campaign, and he did an admirable job in an unfamiliar position.

"Interest is mounting" - How Arsenal can repeat Liverpool trick to win Garcia race

Charles Watts/Joan Garcia composite image

Arsenal may find it "very hard" to win the race for Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, but they could follow a Liverpool example to edge out other interested parties, expert Charles Watts has theorised.

The Gunners have been persistently linked with an approach for the Spaniard for a number of months and are likely to step up their interest now that Neto will soon head back to parent club Bournemouth.

Garcia could be available for around £21m thanks to a release clause in his contract, but Manchester United and Barcelona have also been tipped to make a move for the 24-year-old, although he has supposedly already turned down the latter.

Two other Premier League sides are already said to have reached a verbal agreement on the player's side too, but Watts wonders whether Arsenal could sign him and loan him out for the 2025-26 season, as Liverpool did with Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Real Madrid are reportedly making an attempt to prise an Arsenal defender away from the Emirates Stadium this summer.

With Xabi Alonso having just been confirmed as the new head coach of Real Madrid, Los Blancos will now go through a transitional period on the back of surrendering the La Liga title to Barcelona.

There are several areas of the pitch that require strengthening, with Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen having already been signed and veteran midfielder Luka Modric departing the Bernabeu having reached veteran status.

The left-back position is another area which brings issues for Alonso, a consequence of Ferland Mendy having sometimes struggled to remain fit and Fran Garcia not always being convincing while at the club.

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has reportedly opened the door to a potential summer exit.

After a campaign where he contributed 19 goals and 20 assists in all competitions, club captain Fernandes has solidified his status as Ruben Amorim's star player.

However, failure to qualify for the Champions League has left United and Fernandes as a crossroads moment, the club being limited in what they can spend in the transfer market and the player without continental football while at his peak.

In the aftermath of the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Fernandes acknowledged that United may have to consider "cashing in" on his signature and hinted that he was prepared to leave if the club wanted to sell him.
