Preview: Las Palmas vs. Alaves - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Friday's La Liga clash between Las Palmas and Alaves, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

There is a relegation six-pointer in La Liga on Friday evening, with Alaves heading to Las Palmas for a huge contest.

Alaves, who are 18th in the La Liga table, will enter the match off the back of a 1-0 success over top-four hopefuls Villarreal, while 19th-placed Las Palmas lost 1-0 to Real Betis last time out.

Las Palmas have not been victorious in Spain's top flight since before the winter break, with 2025 proving to be incredibly difficult for the team thus far, losing eight of their 10 matches in all competitions.

Diego Martinez's side were flying at the end of 2024, winning four of their five matches in the build-up to the break, but it has been a struggle since, with Pio Pio dropping into the relegation zone.

Los Amarillos, who finished 16th in La Liga last season, will enter this match off the back of a 1-0 defeat to Real Betis, which proved to be their 15th loss in Spain's top flight during the 2024-25 campaign.

Las Palmas have a record of six wins, six draws and 15 defeats from their 27 league games this season to collect 24 points, which has left them in 19th spot in the table, two points behind 18th-placed Alaves and three from Leganes in 17th.

Pio Pio have only picked up 13 points from their 13 home league games this season, and they will be welcoming an Alaves side that have avoided defeat in six of their 14 away top-flight matches during the 2024-25 campaign.

Alaves were 10th in Spain's top flight last season, which represented an excellent campaign, but it has been more difficult for the Basque outfit in 2024-25, with the team currently in the relegation zone.

A record of six wins, eight draws and 13 defeats from 27 matches has brought them 26 points, which is only enough for 18th, but they are just one point behind 17th-placed Leganes ahead of Friday's fixture.

Eduardo Coudet's side will enter this match off the back of an excellent result, beating top-four hopefuls Villarreal 1-0, with Manu Sanchez's 11th-minute goal proving to be the difference between the two sides, and it was an even more impressive result considering that the strugglers finished the game with nine men.

Alaves are bidding to do a La Liga double over Las Palmas, having recorded a 2-0 victory earlier this season, while they have enjoyed the better of the recent meetings between the two sides.

Three of the last five matches between the teams in Spain's top flight have been won by Alaves, who last triumphed away to Las Palmas in April 2018, recording a 4-0 victory at Estadio Gran Canaria.

Team News

Las Palmas will be able to welcome Alberto Moleiro and Scott McKenna back into their squad on Friday evening after the pair missed out against Real Betis last time out due to suspensions.

Viti Rozada and Dario Essugo will now serve bans, though, with the former picking up a milestone yellow card against Real Betis, while the latter was sent off just past the hour in the same match.

Las Palmas still have injury problems, with Benito Ramirez and Mika Marmol both out, while Kirian Rodriguez remains unavailable for selection, as the midfielder recently had a cancer relapse.

Alaves, meanwhile, have three players unavailable for selection through suspension, with Moussa Diarra, Antonio Blanco and Antonio Sivera suspended for the clash with Las Palmas.

Tomas Conechny, Carlos Benavidez, Jesus Owono and Hugo Novoa are also missing through injury, so the visitors will have a whole host of first-team players unavailable against Las Palmas.

Adrian Rodriguez will feature between the sticks, while there is also expected to be a spot in midfield for Ander Guevara; Kike Garcia has 11 league goals to his name this term, and the experienced forward will continue to lead the line.

Las Palmas possible starting lineup:
Cillessen; Park, Suarez, McKenna, Munoz; Sandro, Bajcetic, Campana, Moleiro; Januzaj; F Silva

Alaves possible starting lineup:
Rodriguez; Tenaglia, Abqar, Mourino, M Sanchez; Cabanes, Guevara, Jordan, Alena; K Garcia, Martin

We say: Las Palmas 1-1 Alaves

This is a huge game at the bottom of the table, and it will be a fascinating watch considering that both teams are missing important players; Alaves will enter the fixture in a better place, but we believe that Las Palmas will be able to claim a point on Friday night.
