Inter Milan are reportedly exploring the opportunity to sign Lorenzo Insigne for free when his contract with Napoli expires next summer.

The Nerazzurri were understood to have made an offer to sign the 30-year-old in this summer's window, however they were unwilling to match Napoli's €25m (£21.5m) valuation.

According to Calciomercato, Inter will now look to negotiate with Insigne and his representatives in January to discuss a pre-contract agreement for the forward to join the club in July 2022.

The report does state, however, that they may face competition from Serie A giants Juventus, who have a history with signing players on free transfers, including Paul Pogba, Kingsley Coman, Andrea Pirlo and Sami Khedira.

Insigne – who has also been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur and Everton – would request a four-year contract with a salary worth around £6m per year, a figure his current club Napoli are not prepared to match.

The Italian had an impressive campaign with Napoli last season, scoring 19 goals and providing seven assists in 35 Serie A appearances.
