FC Twente vs. Cambuur - prediction, team news, lineups

Aiming to extend their four-game unbeaten streak, FC Twente welcome Cambuur to De Grolsch Veste on Sunday in round 28 of the 2022-23 Eredivisie season.

While the hosts are currently on a decent run of form, their visitors make the trip to Enschede aiming to avoid suffering a fourth consecutive defeat.

Match preview

Twente were denied a third consecutive victory last time out with a goalless stalemate against SBV Excelsior at Van Donge & De Roo Stadion on Saturday.

Ron Jans's men were in the ascendancy for large spells of the contest but failed to find the all-important breakthrough needed to come away with all three points.

As a result, the Tukkers sit fifth in the Eredivisie table, albeit now eight points behind PSV Eindhoven in the race for the final automatic European place.

Awaiting them next is the challenge of an opposing outfit who boast just one victory from the last 19 editions of this fixture across all competitions since 1993.

Having conceded the joint-fewest goals on home turf in the entire division, Sunday's hosts will be confident of keeping their opponents at bay this weekend.

Cambuur fell to an agonising 2-1 defeat against Emmen in the teams' crucial relegation six-pointer at the Cambuur Stadion on Saturday evening.

Sjors Ultee's men opened the scoring midway through the second period thanks to Mitchel Paulissen before late goals from Ahmed El Messaoudi and Jeroen Veldmate completed a sensational turnaround.

With 16 points amassed from their 27 matches this term, the Yellow-Blues remain rooted to the bottom of the league standings, eight points adrift of safety heading into the final seven matches.

Off the back of 11 goals conceded in their last three outings on the road, Sunday's visitors will be wary of being on the receiving end of another thrashing away from home.

Team News

Mees Hilgers remains unavailable due to a muscle problem, while Manfred Ugalde and Mathias Kjolo are sidelined through knee and jawbone injuries respectively.

Twenty-nine-year-old Robin Propper is also ruled out of contention through illness, and he is joined on the hosts' treatment table by Michal Sadilek.

Daan Rots will be pushing for a place in the starting XI having made his return to action from a brief injury spell against Excelsior last time out.

Cambuur's Maxim Gullit will not feature this weekend due to a long-term knee injury which has seen the defender fail to make a single appearance this term.

The visitors will also be without the services of Silvester van der Water, Roberts Uldrikis, Mimoun Mahi and Robin Maulun, who all miss out through injury.

FC Twente possible starting lineup:

Unnerstall; Smal, Pleguezuelo, Bruns, Brenet; Salah-Eddine, Zerrouki, Vlap; Misidjan, Van Wolfswinkel, Cerny

Cambuur possible starting lineup:

Ruiter; Bangura, Smand, Tol, Schmidt; Hoedemakers, Paulissen, Van Kaam; Breij, Foor, Johnsen

We say: FC Twente 2-0 Cambuur

Twente have been near-perfect in front of their fans so far, and it is hard to envisage any other outcome rather than a win for them. We are backing the hosts to cruise to a relatively comfortable victory come the end of the 90 minutes.
