Signing number six? How close are Man City to recruiting Juve's Cambiaso?

Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso has seemingly emerged as a top target for Manchester City, but they may have to wait until the summer to secure his services.

The Citizens are by far the Premier League's biggest spenders in the January transfer window so far, and have remarkably spent more than all 20 English top-flight clubs combined last winter, splashing out around £123m on new recruits.

Defensive pair Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis were Pep Guardiola's first two new additions last week, before attacker Omar Marmoush was unveiled as Man City's third signing just two days before he and Khusanov made their full debuts in last Saturday's 3-1 Premier League win over Chelsea.

Man City have since recruited 18-year-old defenders Juma Bah and Christian McFarlane from Real Valladolid and New York City FC respectively, with the former having already been sent out on loan to Lens for the rest of the season.

Arsenal exit confirmed: When will Tierney make sensational return to Celtic?

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Kieran Tierney's return to Celtic "will definitely take place in the summer", although there is still hope that the Arsenal defender could move to Glasgow this month.

Tierney is out of contract with Arsenal in July and Celtic have agreed pre-contract terms with the 27-year-old for him to move back to Parkhead, but the Hoops are now waiting on a decision from the Gunners to see if he is available in the current transfer window, which shuts on February 3.

Fellow left-back Alex Valle has had his loan spell from Barcelona terminated by Celtic to allow the Spaniard to complete his proposed move to Italian side Como.

Rodgers is hopeful that Valle's departure will accelerate the process of signing Tierney, so that he can be selected in Celtic's Champions League squad for the knockout rounds, although the Hoops boss has admitted that it is "out of our control".

"He's a very talented goalkeeper": Should Blues replace Sanchez with Kelleher?

© Imago

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Michel Vorm has exclusively told Sports Mole that while Caoimhin Kelleher is an excellent shot stopper, he would be faced with increased pressure at Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca defended the performances of first-choice goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who was arguably at fault for Erling Haaland's goal on Sunday, as Manchester City won 3-1 against the Blues.

Sanchez was signed from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2023 for a reported fee of £25m, but he has at times struggled with his decision-making.

Speaking to Sports Mole about the possibility that Chelsea might swoop for someone like Kelleher, Vorm heaped praise on the Irishman but questioned if he could deal with the expectations at Stamford Bridge, saying: "[Kelleher] showed that he's a very talented goalkeeper. He's done so well. But people also need to understand if you make a transfer to Chelsea, they pay a lot of money and you're becoming the number one - it's a different pressure.

The forward will be eager to rediscover the form that saw him light up the Scottish Premiership, scoring 28 goals and providing 26 assists in his 83 appearances during his first spell with the Hoops.

Chelsea have reportedly agreed to loan out Deivid Washington to a Brazilian club where the forward will 'fulfil his dream'.

Ever since making the switch to Stamford Bridge from Santos in a £17.1m transfer in August 2023, Washington has remained on the periphery of the first team.

Having accumulated 25 minutes across three matches under Mauricio Pochettino during 2023-24, the 19-year-old has been provided with no senior action by his replacement Enzo Maresca.

While seven outings have been made for the Under-21s this season, there has been a desire to find Washington a team where he can earn regular senior football.

Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal with Serie A side Lecce to sign versatile full-back Patrick Dorgu.

The Red Devils have been left frustrated in the January transfer market thus far, with head coach Ruben Amorim yet to bolster his squad with any new additions ahead of the February 3 deadline.

It is understood that Man United are on the lookout for a new wing-back, primarily a left-footed player as injury-prone Luke Shaw is still sidelined and Tyrell Malacia is allegedly free to leave on loan.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui, two right-footed players, have predominantly operated on the flanks under Amorim, while both Amad Diallo and Antony have also taken up wide roles, although the latter has now joined Real Betis on loan.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly been presented with an opportunity to cut short the loan spell of Ajax winger Carlos Forbs.

The West Midlands outfit moved to sign the former Manchester City youngster in the summer on a loan deal that came with an obligation to buy.

That clause - believed to be in the region of £11m - would only be activated should the 20-year-old make a set number of appearances.

While that figure has never been officially revealed, Forbs is currently on one start and eight substitute outings in the Premier League, a realistic assumption being that 10 may be the so-called magic number.

"The sooner he's gone the better" - Man Utd legend issues scathing Rashford verdict

Marcus Rashford's future at Manchester United has been called into further doubt after one of the club's legends delivered a scathing assessment of the forward's attitude, suggesting he should be "banished" from the dressing room.

The 27-year-old has been sidelined for 11 consecutive matches, with manager Ruben Amorim leaving him out of the squad for all but one game during that period.

Amorim's comments after United's 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday added fuel to the fire, as the manager openly criticised Rashford's training standards.

"The reason is the training, what I think a footballer should do in training, in life and every day," Amorim said, even suggesting he would rather play 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital than a player who does not give "the maximum every day".

Brighton & Hove Albion forward Evan Ferguson reportedly has a new frontrunner in the race for his signature.

Despite being regarded as one of the best young strikers in Europe, the 20-year-old has struggled to make an impression during 2024-25.

The Republic of Ireland international has been provided with just two starts and 10 substitute outings in the Premier League, scoring one goal.

Although Fabian Hurzeler had previously insisted that Ferguson would have to remain patient for chances at the Amex Stadium, it appears increasingly likely that he will be allowed to depart on loan.

"Very conscious": Man City urged to avoid midfield mistake amid Luiz, Nypan links

SM-EK Luiz, Nypan composite

Manchester City "are much more aware of the need to get it right" when signing a new midfielder after their previous "failings in the transfer market" in that department, Citizens expert Steven McInerney from Esteemed Kompany has told Sports Mole.

A combination of injuries and a notable drop-off in form from several first-team players has contributed to Man City's decline this season, leaving them 12 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, out of the EFL Cup and in danger of failing to qualify for the Champions League knockout rounds.

In a bid to revive their campaign, add much-needed depth in key positions and address the age profile of a squad that has become the fourth oldest in the Premier League, Pep Guardiola's side have decided to begin their squad rebuild this month, with three fresh faces having already arrived at the Etihad Stadium.

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Mario Lemina has hinted that he is closing in on an exit from Molineux.

Recently-appointed head coach Vitor Pereira has publicly stated that the Gabon international will not be considered for selection until after the end of the January transfer window.

That is a consequence of Lemina having told him that he is eager to leave the club, as well as withdrawing himself from contention for a recent fixture versus Newcastle United.

Lemina was also stripped of the captaincy for an on-the-pitch fracas after a game with West Ham United in December, with the 31-year-old involved in an argument with Toti Gomes and a member of staff.

As it stands, it appears highly likely that Gomes will remain at Stade Pierre-Mauroy and depart as a free agent at the end of the season.
