Saturday's Chelsea transfer talk news roundup: Kai Havertz, Sergio Romero, Timo Werner

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Chelsea on Saturday, September 5.

The summer transfer window has now begun, with rumours and speculation continuing to swirl as Chelsea eye possible reinforcements.

The Blues failed to bring in a single player during the January window, despite seeing their transfer ban cut short by FIFA, but have already been busy this summer.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings from Stamford Bridge.

Saturday morning's Chelsea transfer talk news roundup:

Chelsea 'want two more signings after Kai Havertz'

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard reportedly wants to make two more signings after securing the signature of German playmaker Kai Havertz.

The 21-year-old has penned a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge after arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal believed to be worth £71m.

Chelsea have been extremely active in the transfer market and Havertz joins a star-studded list of summer arrivals which includes Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr.

Now, The Telegraph claims that Lampard has set his sights on two more signings with the 2020-21 Premier League season set to kick off next weekend.

The report suggests that Chelsea are looking to bolster their defence further, with Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice on Lampard's wishlist.

Mendy would reportedly cost in the region of £30m, while West Ham are believed to value Rice in excess of £70m.

Chelsea are reportedly ready to make a move for Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

Frank Lampard is known to be in the market for a new shot-stopper amid question marks over current number one Kepa Arrizabalaga, who became the world's most expensive keeper when he joined but ended last season with the worst save percentage in the Premier League.

Chelsea are also understood to be interested in Rennes' Edouard Mendy, while they have previously been linked with Mike Maignan and Jan Oblak.

However, The Athletic reports that they have now added Romero to their list of potential targets, with Manchester United willing to consider offers for the Argentine.

Romero has spent his entire five-year United career as second fiddle to David de Gea so far, and first-team chances could become even rarer following the return of Dean Henderson from a loan spell with Sheffield United.

The 33-year-old would represent a cheaper option than the other goalkeepers Chelsea are looking at, with Mendy expected to cost at least £18m.

Chelsea are already the Premier League's biggest spenders this summer and are set to take their splurge to more than £200m with the imminent arrival of Kai Havertz in a club-record deal.

Leeds United, Everton and Aston Villa have also been credited with an interest in Romero.
