Vitesse vs. PSV - prediction, team news, lineups

Two teams in highly contrasting forms face off in round 26 of the 2022-23 Eredivisie season as Vitesse welcome PSV Eindhoven to GelreDome on Sunday.

The hosts set out to avoid defeat number five in a row, while their visitors will be looking to make it six wins in a row across all competitions.

Match preview

PSV breezed past the challenge of SC Cambuur thanks to an emphatic 5-2 victory when the teams went head-to-head at the Philips Stadion on Sunday.

After going behind to Remco Balk's opener, Ruud van Nistelrooy's men restored parity through Xavi Simons before a second-half blitz led by two goals from Anwar El-Ghazi and further strikes from Patrick Van Aanholt and Fabio Silva completed a remarkable turnaround.

Having picked up maximum points from all but one of their five league matches, the Rood-witten sit fourth in the Eredivisie table, six points adrift of table-topping Feyenoord.

Lying in store is the challenge of an opposing outfit who have recorded only one victory in the most recent 19 editions of this fixture since 2014.

For all of their recent upturn in form, Sunday's visitors boast just one triumph in six outings on the road leading up to this weekend's clash, and they will be keen to turn their away fortunes around.

Vitesse fell to a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Sparta Rotterdam in the teams' encounter at the Sparta Stadion Het Kasteel on Saturday night.

Phillip Cocu's men broke the deadlock early on through Dominik Oroz before goals from Arno Verschueren, Koki Saito and Joshua Kitolano turned the contest on its head.

As a result, Geel en Zwart remain 14th in the league table with 23 points from 25 matches, just three points above the dreaded drop zone as things stand.

Currently with the second-worst home record in the entire division, Sunday's hosts will need to get going in front of their fans if they are to steer clear of relegation danger.

Team News

Vitesse's Maximilian Wittek is ineligible to feature in this one after he received his marching orders in the defeat to Sparta Rotterdam last time out.

Mitchell Dijks misses out for the hosts through illness, with Davy Propper and Nicolas Isimat-Mirin also ruled out through knee and muscle injuries respectively.

Walter Benitez continues to battle with a niggling knee problem, and the PSV goalkeeper is set to be unavailable for the fourth game on the spin.

Mauro Junior and Thorgan Hazard are out of contention due to muscle injuries, while Savio remains absent from first-team duty due to personal reasons.

In what was his longest cameo appearance since returning from injury, Anwar El-Ghazi put on a superb attacking display which should see him rewarded with a place in the lineup.

Vitesse possible starting lineup:

Scherpen; Cornelisse, Meulensteen, Oroz, Flamingo; Tronstad, Van Ginkel; Kozlowski, Bero, Manhoef; Sankoh

PSV Eindhoven possible starting lineup:

Drommel; Mwene, Ramalho, Branthwaite, Van Aanholt; Sanagre, Veerman; El-Ghazi, Til, Simons; Silva

We say: Vitesse 1-3 PSV Eindhoven

PSV will head into this one with the wind in their sails and unsurprisingly so given recent results. Vitesse, on the other hand, are currently on a downward spiral, and we fancy PSV to cruise to a relatively comfortable win in this one.
