Ashley Young brands Manchester United teammate Anthony Martial "a world-class player".

Ashley Young has branded Manchester United teammate Anthony Martial "a world-class player" and has admitted that he is flabbergasted that the attacker is not in the France squad.

Martial's inconsistent form during the 2017-18 campaign saw him left out of the France squad for the 2018 World Cup, and he was widely tipped to leave United in the recent summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old has worked his way back into the United team in recent weeks, however, and scored both of their goals in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Chelsea.

Young has branded Martial, who is yet to sign a new deal with United despite the fact that his existing contract expires this summer, "a fantastic player".

"He is fantastic, he is a world-class player. To be honest I am not sure why he is not in the France squad, but that is down to the French manager," Young told United's official website.

"For me, I see him day in, day out and he is some talent. He is unbelievable and he has shown his finishing [ability] day in, day out at training. He is a fantastic player and he got the goals today."

Martial has now started three successive Premier League games for United.
