Tigre vs. Banfield - prediction, team news, lineups

Tigre will attempt to bounce back from consecutive defeats when they face Banfield in Wednesday's Argentine Primera Division contest.

The hosts, meanwhile, will attempt to claim consecutive victories after edging out Argentinos Juniors in their most recent outing.

Match preview

After rounding off the month of June with a 2-0 defeat to Sao Paulo in the Copa Sudamericana, Tigre began July with another disappointing result.

Tigre were edged out by a narrow 1-0 scoreline in Saturday's away meeting with Defensa y Justicia, representing their fourth loss in the last five league games.

Having mustered just one win in their previous nine top-flight matches, Tigre are currently sitting in 19th place in the Primera Division table.

Although Tigre may be enduring a poor spell of form, they have proven to be a tough team to beat on home turf in recent times, losing just one of their last seven home league fixtures.

After scoring the first goal in each of their six league wins this season, El Matador may need to strike first if they are to claim all three points on Wednesday.

Tigre's opponents will head into the midweek encounter in a buoyant mood after they ended a run of three consecutive league defeats with a narrow victory over Argentinos Juniors on Saturday.

A second-half strike from Milton Gimenez proved to be decisive, as Banfield kept Argentinos Juniors at bay to clinch a 1-0 victory.

Despite picking up a win at the weekend, Banfield are currently languishing in 26th place with 21 points to show for their 22 games.

Having collected just five points in 10 away games this season, the visitors will need to improve on their travels if they are to improve upon their current league position.

Although they have won just one away match in the Primera Division this term, Banfield can take confidence from the fact that they are unbeaten in their previous five away meetings with Tigres (W3, D2).

Team News

Tigre are expected to be without the services of Sebastian Prieto, Alexis Castro and Lucas Menossi, who are all nursing injury issues.

After dropping down to the bench at the weekend, Agustin Cardozo could be recalled to the starting lineup for Wednesday's contest.

Mateo Retegui will continue to lead the line for the hosts, and he will be looking to add to the 10 league goals that he has scored this season.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call upon the injured trio of Alexis Maldonado, Andres Chavez and Horacio Tijanovich.

Aaron Quiros is set to make his third consecutive start for Banfield, and he is expected to be joined in the centre of defence by Alejandro Maciel.

After registering four goals in his last five games, Gimenez will be hoping to continue his fine form when he features up front on Wednesday.

Tigre possible starting lineup:

Marinelli; Garay, Cabrera, Luciatti, Montoya; Cardozo, Zabala; Armoa, Molinas, Colidio; Retegui

Banfield possible starting lineup:

Cambeses; Coronel, Maciel, Quiros, Insua; Remedi, Cabrera; Sanchez, Aleman, Bisanz; Gimenez

We say: Tigre 1-0 Banfield

Tigre may have lost four of their last five league matches, but we think that they may take advantage of Banfield's poor away record to claim a narrow victory in Wednesday's contest.
