Port Vale vs. Wycombe - prediction, team news, lineups

Relegation-threatened Port Vale will be desperate to return to winning ways when they welcome Wycombe Wanderers to Vale Park on Tuesday.

The hosts are languishing in 21st position in the League One table, while the Chairboys are sitting in 14th place in the standings.

Match preview

Port Vale appeared to have turned a corner when they finished March with consecutive victories over Burton Albion and Bristol Rovers.

However, the Valiants have since experienced a downturn in form, picking up just one point from their last four matches.

They looked set to end their winless run when Ethan Chislett and Baylee Dipepa found the net to establish a two-goal lead at half time of Saturday's home clash with Exeter City.

Unfortunately for Darren Moore, his Port Vale side capitulated in the second period, conceding four goals to slump to a second straight defeat.

As a result of the 4-2 loss, the Valiants are now three points adrift from safety with just three games left to play against Wycombe, Bolton Wanderers and Cambridge United.

In contrast to their hosts, Wycombe are currently sitting in the comfort of mid-table after collecting 55 points from 42 matches.

The Chairboys have responded positively to their defeat in the EFL Trophy final, having taken four points from their two league games since losing 2-1 to Peterborough United at Wembley.

Matt Bloomfield's side held promotion-chasing Derby County to a goalless draw, before they beat Shrewsbury Town 2-0 in Saturday's away contest.

Luke Leahy and Richard Kone both grabbed late goals against 10-man Shrewsbury to end Wycombe's four-game winless run in all competitions.

The Chairboys will fancy their chances of collecting at least a point from Tuesday's fixture after avoiding defeat in each of their previous six meetings with Port Vale.

Team News

Port Vale are unable to call upon the injured trio of Dan Gore, Mitch Clark and James Wilson, while Ryan Loft is a doubt after being left on the bench against Exeter due to an Achilles problem.

Forward Uche Ikpeazu is likely to retain his place after making his first start since returning from a shoulder injury.

Ikpeazu is expected to be joined in the frontline by England Under-17 international Dipepa, who has found the net in Port Vale's last two home games.

As for the visitors, they are still without the services of Kane Vincent-Young, Brandon Hanlan and Saxon Earley.

Kone could be rewarded with a starting place after coming off the bench to score the second goal of Saturday's 2-0 win over Shrewsbury.

Matt Butcher and Kieran Sadlier could also be recalled to the side after the pair dropped down to the bench at the weekend.

Port Vale possible starting lineup: Ripley; Debrah, Smith, Iacovitti; Sang, Garrity, Ojo, Grant; Chislett; Ikpeazu, Dipepa

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup: Ravizzoli; McCarthy, Low, Forino, Leahy; Scowen, Potts; McCleary, Taylor, Sadlier; Kone

We say: Port Vale 1-2 Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe have won their last two away games at Vale Park, and we think that they will claim another victory against a Port Vale side that has lost three of their previous four matches.
