Preview: MK Dons vs. Shrewsbury Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between MK Dons and Shrewsbury Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Shrewsbury Town will be aiming to make it three League One victories in a row when they travel to MK Dons on Tuesday night.

The visitors will enter the match off the back of a 5-1 win over Cambridge United on Saturday, while MK Dons recorded a 2-1 victory over Forest Green Rovers on the same afternoon.

MK Dons won for the first time in four League One matches on Saturday, as Mohamed Eisa's brace secured a 2-1 victory over Forest Green Rovers in Gloucestershire.

The result moved Mark Jackson's side out of the relegation zone and onto 25 points, with the team now sitting 19th in the table, one point clear of 21st-placed Morecambe, who have a game in hand.

The Dons finished third in League One last season, which saw them qualify for the playoffs, but they were beaten by Wycombe Wanderers in the semi-finals.

There is no getting away from the fact that it has been a disappointing campaign for the club, and they are currently 18 points off the playoffs, which is an indication of their struggles.

Jackson's team have actually won five times on their travels in the league this term, but they have the worst home record in the division, picking up just nine points from 13 matches.

Shrewsbury, meanwhile, will enter this match off the back of successive wins over Burton Albion and Cambridge, which has left them in 11th spot in the table on 35 points.

Steve Cotterill's side are only three points behind seventh-placed Peterborough United but eight from sixth-placed Barnsley, so they have some work to do in order to move into playoff contention.

The team's last two results would certainly have boosted their confidence, though, as they have netted nine times and conceded once in the impressive successes.

Shrewsbury have picked up 15 away points during the 2022-23 campaign, recording four victories in the process, and they will be looking to take advantage of MK Dons' poor form at home.

Cotterill's team recorded a 2-1 win over MK Dons in the reverse match earlier this season, and they have actually been victorious in three of their last four league fixtures with Tuesday's opponents.

Team News

MK Dons have not reported any injury issues from their 2-1 win over Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.

As a result, it would not be a surprise to see the same XI take to the field, with Eisa being joined in the final third of the field by Will Grigg and Jonathan Leko.

Conor Grant is pushing for a spot in the side, though, while Matthew Smith will also be in contention for a start, should head coach Jackson decide to shuffle his pack for this contest.

As for Shrewsbury, boss Cotterill could also name an unchanged side from the 5-1 win over Cambridge.

Luke Leahy netted a brace on Saturday, including one from the penalty spot, and he should again line up in the middle of the park for the visitors.

It is likely to once again be a 3-4-3 formation, with leading goalscorer Christian Saydee set to operate off the left for a side that has scored nine times in their last two league fixtures.

MK Dons possible starting lineup:
Cumming; Watson, Tucker, Jules, Harvie; McEachran, Johnson, Devoy; Eisa, Grigg, Leko

Shrewsbury Town possible starting lineup:
Marosi; Pennington, Dunkley, Flanagan; Moore, Winchester, Leahy, Shipley; Street, Phillips, Saydee

We say: MK Dons 1-1 Shrewsbury Town

MK Dons are certainly better than they have shown this season, especially at home, and we are backing Jackson's side to secure a point here. Shrewsbury will be full of confidence heading into the contest, but they might be forced to settle for a share of the spoils on Tuesday night.
