Why leaving Chelsea was a "no-brainer" for Palace new boy Chilwell

Crystal Palace have confirmed the loan signing of Ben Chilwell from Chelsea for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.

The England international makes the move to Selhurst Park after being frozen out of Enzo Maresca's Blues squad, only playing one match for the West London giants in the EFL Cup this season.

Chilwell has not earned a single minute of action since September's 5-0 EFL Cup win over Barrow, having already failed to secure an exit in the summer when he was deemed surplus to requirements by Maresca.

The former Leicester City man was previously said to have been on the radar of Borussia Dortmund, but the Bundesliga side instead pursued a deal for his Blues teammate Carney Chukwuemeka.

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the loan signing of Bayern Munich's Mathys Tel with an option to buy in the summer.

The Lilywhites' option to make Tel's stay permanent is believed to be set at around £45.9m, and the former Rennes attacker will don the number 11 shirt during his time in North London.

The last Spurs player to sport that jersey was Bryan Gil - currently on loan at Girona - while Gary Lineker, Rafael Van der Vaart, Erik Lamela and Gareth Bale have also worn the '11' down the years.

Tel becomes Tottenham's third and in all likelihood last arrival of the January transfer window, following Czech goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky and on-loan Lens centre-back Kevin Danso to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly failed with a £12.5m bid for Udinese defender Thomas Kristensen.

Wolves recently saw their bid to sign Kevin Danso hijacked by Tottenham Hotspur, before talks over a potential deal to re-sign Leicester City's Conor Coady ultimately failed to bear fruit.

The Midlands club soon turned their focus to Udinese's Kristensen in a bid to bring in another centre-back following Emmanuel Agbadou's arrival earlier this month.

Kristensen, who has previously been linked with Spurs, has seemingly impressed Wolves with his performances in his 12 Serie A appearances this season.

Liverpool are reportedly 'edging closer' to the signing of Paris Saint-Germain winger Desire Doue following the French champions' capture of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The Reds and PSG appeared to be in direct competition to land Kvaratskhelia earlier in the January transfer window after it was confirmed that the Georgian attacker was pushing to leave Napoli.

Liverpool ultimately did not follow up their interest, giving PSG a clear run at Kvaratskhelia, who joined Luis Enrique's side on a long-term deal a couple of months back.

According to the Anfield Watch, Kvaratskhelia's arrival in the French capital could negatively impact some of the existing attackers in the French champions' ranks, including the highly-rated Doue.

The West Midlands outfit moved outside of the Premier League relegation zone on Saturday evening with a deserved 2-0 victory over Aston Villa.

However, Vitor Pereira is eager for club officials to not get complacent in the market, stressing the need for at least one more centre-back and central midfielder.

As per Sky Sports News, Wolves are attempting to finalise deals for Nasser Djiga and Marshall Munetsi of Red Star Belgrade and Reims respectively.

Borussia Dortmund will reportedly have the option to buy Chelsea's Carney Chukwuemeka following the end of his imminent loan deal to the German giants.

News broke this morning that Dortmund were closing in on the loan signing of the 21-year-old, who has featured sporadically for the Blues this season under Enzo Maresca.

Chukwuemeka has made just one start, away to Astana in the Conference League when Maresca took a 'C' side out to Kazakhstan.

The young midfielder has made another three substitute appearances in Europe, as well as a brief cameo against Barrow in the EFL Cup, with none of his minutes coming in the Premier League so far this season.

West Ham United have confirmed the signing of Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion for the remainder of the season.

The 20-year-old has linked up with Graham Potter's side on a straight loan deal until the end of the 2024-25 campaign, and Sky Sports News reports that the Irons have paid a "significant" fee for his services on a temporary basis.

Ferguson will sport the number 34 shirt during his time at the London Stadium, a jersey previously worn by Robbie Keane and Luis Boa Morte but one that has been vacant since 2021.

West Ham are apparently set to cover the entirety of Ferguson's wages during his time in the capital, where he will provide an alternative attacking option while Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug recover from injuries.

Deadline day decision made at Man United following Martinez injury, Rashford exit

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim on January 26, 2025

Manchester United are reportedly unlikely to add any new faces to their squad on deadline day, despite the recent injury to Lisandro Martinez.

Martinez will miss the rest of the season with the knee injury he suffered in the 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday, where Ruben Amorim's side misfired once again in attack.

The stats look bleak for their two main striking options, because Rasmus Hojlund has failed to score in his last 13 games, while Joshua Zirkzee is without a goal in his last 11.

In that time, even stricken defender Martinez has scored twice, netting the opener at Anfield against Liverpool and the winner away to Fulham last weekend.

The details about the structure of Ben Chilwell's loan move to Crystal Palace from Chelsea have reportedly been announced.

Early on deadline day, news broke that Chilwell was on the verge of joining the Eagles on loan for the rest of the season, and more information about the deal has been reported.

After a hugely frustrating season so far that has seen the former England international frozen out at Stamford Bridge by Enzo Maresca, he is now set for an opportunity to revive his career.

In the last three-and-a-half seasons, Chilwell has only played 43 league games, with injuries being very disruptive in the 2021-22 and 2023-24 campaigns in particular.

New contract, new club: Liverpool set to announce first deadline day deal?

Liverpool striker Jayden Danns is reportedly poised to sign a new contract with the Reds before joining Sunderland on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 19-year-old burst onto the scene during Jurgen Klopp's farewell campaign and has continued his development under Arne Slot this season, scoring against Accrington Stanley in last month's 4-0 FA Cup third-round win.

Danns now has three strikes to boast from nine senior appearances in a Liverpool kit, having also bagged a brace against Southampton in last year's FA Cup, and he completed 83 minutes of last week's Champions League loss to PSV Eindhoven.

However, with Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez blocking Danns's path to the first team, The Athletic reports that he will head out to Sunderland on loan in the hope of earning more game time.

Manchester City are reportedly making an effort to try to sign Porto midfielder Nico Gonzalez.

The Premier League champions have already spent £130m to secure deals for Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Omar Marmoush during the winter transfer window.

However, Pep Guardiola is yet to strengthen his options for the engine room, despite the prolonged absence of key man Rodri.

On Sunday evening, the Spaniard witnessed his side suffer a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, a result and performance that further emphasised the ground that City have lost on their rivals this campaign.

Deadline day: Latest news and rumours including Truffert to Everton

France's Adrien Truffert on July 27, 2024

Everton have been linked with a move for Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert ahead of January's transfer deadline.

With one senior French cap to his name, Truffert was also part of the France Olympic squad that played in front of home crowds last summer and took home the silver medal.

A Rennes youth academy product, Truffert has been a key member of the first team since making his breakthrough as a teenager in 2020, helping his side qualify for Europe in previous years.

With the club now languishing near the bottom of the table and in danger of relegation though, the Daily Mail claim Truffert could be set to leave for the Toffees, with Rennes potentially keen on cashing in on their academy star after spending big this month on the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi and Brice Samba.

Aston Villa are allegedly contemplating whether to sign Chelsea defender Axel Disasi in a £50m deal.

Head coach Unai Emery claimed in the aftermath of Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers that he was 'in need of more players'.

That is a consequence of central-defensive duo Pau Torres and Tyrone Mings being sidelined through injury and Diego Carlos being sold to Fenerbahce.

Furthermore, young right-back Kosta Nedeljkovic has been loaned to RB Leipzig at a time when Matty Cash is also facing several weeks on the sidelines.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly failed with what is described as a 'major' bid for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

Earlier on Monday, it was widely claimed that Spurs had withdrawn their interest in signing versatile Chelsea man Axel Disasi.

However, Spurs remain in the hunt for a new central defender despite having won the race to sign Kevin Danso from Lens over the weekend.

Spurs also kept a rare clean sheet in a 2-0 victory at Brentford on Sunday afternoon, yet a replacement is required for Radu Dragusin who may be sidelined in the long term with a knee injury.

Trabzonspor are reportedly preparing to resume negotiations with Southampton in a bid to sign Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu before the winter transfer window closes.

The 30-year-old joined the Saints from Belgian side Genk two seasons ago but struggled for minutes under Ruben Selles and Russell Martin.

Seeking more playing time, the striker joined Trabzonspor on loan last season and made a significant impact, scoring 17 goals and providing four assists in 25 matches.

Despite showing keen interest in securing him permanently, the Turkish side were unable to reach an agreement with Southampton during the previous negotiations.

Dortmund closing in on loan deal for Chelsea playmaker?

Chelsea are reportedly close to finalising a loan transfer for Carney Chukwuemeka to Borussia Dortmund.

The playmaker has been restricted to just 130 minutes of football across five appearances in the EFL Cup and Conference League this season.

That is despite Enzo Maresca having been short of central-midfield options at time during the first half of the season and, particularly, over the Christmas and New Year period.

Despite that opportunity to hand the 21-year-old the game time that he needs and craves, it became increasingly clear that Chelsea were only interested in facilitating an exit for the England Under-21 international.

A total of 24 goals and 26 assists have been contributed from 120 appearances in all competitions, Edwards also winning a Primeira Liga title.

However, the 26-year-old has been restricted to just three starts and six substitute outings this campaign under several different head coaches, including Ruben Amorim who has since moved to Manchester United.

'Knocked back': Man City reject Chelsea bid for midfielder

Recent reports have claimed that Chelsea have expressed their interest in signing O'Reilly before the winter transfer window closes at 11pm today (February 4).

According to TheSecretScout, the West Londoners have in fact lodged an enquiry for the midfielder, but that has been 'knocked back' by Man City.

Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku will not be joining Manchester United or Bayern Munich on transfer deadline day, according to a report.

The 27-year-old has been tipped to leave Stamford Bridge in this window having failed to gain regular first-team football under Enzo Maresca.

Nkunku, who joined Chelsea from Leipzig in 2023 for around of €60m, has started just three of his 19 Premier League appearances this season, with Nicolas Jackson preferred in attack and Cole Palmer ever-present in the number 10 role.

The Frenchman has excelled when called upon in other competitions, however, scoring 11 goals in just 10 appearances across the Conference League, FA Cup and EFL Cup.

Nedeljkovic, a six-cap Serbia international, joined Villa from Red Star Belgrade in January last year and he has since made 10 first-team appearances under Unai Emery this season, including a substitute outing against Leipzig in a 3-2 Champions League win for the Lions in December.

Villa have allowed Nedeljkovic to leave temporarily after completing the signing of fellow right-back Andres Garcia form Levante a fortnight ago, and he will compete with Matty Cash for regular starts under Emery.

Manchester City youngster Jacob Wright is reportedly closing in on a move to Championship club Swansea City.

The midfielder joined the Citizens' academy at the age of eight in 2014 and worked his way through the club's youth ranks before establishing himself as a star player for their Under-18s and Elite Development Squad.

In the 2023-24 season, Wright made 30 appearances for City's Elite Development Squad, while he was also handed his first-team debut by Pep Guardiola in an FA Cup third-round win over Huddersfield Town and his maiden Champions League outing as a substitute against Copenhagen.

The 19-year-old then travelled with Man City's senior side to the United States for their pre-season tour last summer and has since been around the first-team picture, albeit being very much on the periphery of Guardiola's squad.

Chelsea to 'revisit' signing Man United's Garnacho after Tel talks ended

Chelsea could reportedly reignite their interest in Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho after ending their pursuit of Bayern Munich's Mathys Tel.

The West Londoners were credited with an interest in Garnacho at the beginning of the winter transfer window after reports emerged claiming that Man United were open to selling the 20-year-old.

It is thought that Man United would ideally like to keep hold of Garnacho and head coach Ruben Amorim recently stated that his team "want to continue to improve" with the Argentine at the club.

However, in a bid to comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules, the Red Devils are said to be contemplating the sale of home-grown players, including Garnacho, to balance their books.

Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly set to announce the deadline day signing of highly sought-after Nurnberg striker Stefanos Tzimas.

After recruiting nine players and forking out in excess of £150m last summer, many questioned whether Fabian Hurzeler's side would be busy in the winter transfer window.

The Seagulls have indeed been active, though, with midfielder Diego Gomez and centre-back Eiran Cashin both joining the club for a combined fee in the region of £20m, while Jakub Moder has been sold to Feyenoord and Julio Enciso has joined Ipswich Town on loan.

Even Ferguson, meanwhile, is understood to be closing in on a loan move to Graham Potter's West Ham United after failing to gain the regular game time that he desired under Hurzeler this season.

Chelsea's Felix transfer demands made clear amid Milan, Aston Villa interest?

Chelsea are reportedly still weighing up whether to allow Joao Felix to leave Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes.

After a brief spell on loan at Chelsea in 2023, Felix returned to the Blues on a permanent basis from Atletico Madrid last summer, penning a long-term contract until June 2030.

However, the 25-year-old forward has found it difficult to break into Enzo Maresca's side on a regular basis and has been limited to just nine starts across all competitions this season.

Felix has started only three of his 12 Premier League outings, while he has the majority of his success in the Conference League this term, scoring four goals in five appearances.

Garnacho update: Will Man United forward leave Old Trafford on deadline day?

Manchester United attacker Alejandro Garnacho on January 26, 2025

Alejandro Garnacho's future has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, with Manchester United said to be open to serious offers for the Argentina international during the January market.

The Red Devils have not been actively looking to sell the 20-year-old this winter, but due to his status as a home-grown player, Man United have been willing to listen to substantial bids.

Napoli are thought to have failed with a £40m bid earlier in the market, with Man United believed to value him in the region of £60m, and Chelsea are also said to be attentive to the situation.

Garnacho has answered the challenge that Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim set him when he was initially left out of the squad for the Manchester derby in December due to poor performances in training.

Nkunku's next chapter: Where does the future lie for Chelsea striker?

Christopher Nkunku for Chelsea on December 19, 2024
© Imago

Christopher Nkunku's future has been the subject of widespread speculation throughout the January transfer window, and as the deadline approaches, the question remains as to where his next chapter lies.

The Frenchman has struggled to make the desired impact since joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig for a fee in the region of €60m (£50m) in the summer of 2023, suffering an injury-plagued first season before falling down the pecking order under Enzo Maresca.

Nkunku has played just 443 minutes of Premier League football in 19 appearances, only three of which were from the start, but his performances in Europe, netting seven in seven Conference League games, has kept interest in the forward high.

Manchester United are reportedly leading the race among Europe's elites to secure Nkunku's signature, but his potential destination remains unknown as the deadline day clock ticks towards its end.

Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea: Where could Tel end up on deadline day?

Mathys Tel of Bayern Munich in August 2024
© Imago

Mathys Tel's future remains up in the air heading into the final day of the January transfer window, and it will be fascinating to see where the Bayern Munich forward ends up.

There is no getting away from the fact that it has been a disappointing season for the 19-year-old, only contributing one assist in 14 appearances in all competitions, and he was left out of the squad against Holstein Kiel on Saturday.

Tel showed his quality last season, scoring 10 goals and registering six assists in 41 appearances, but the opportunities have just not been there this term, and he could be a high-profile departure on deadline day.

"We're talking a lot with him," Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund said on Saturday. "A lot's been going on with the young lad in the past few days. He's only 19. We decided together with him yesterday that there's a lot on his mind, so it makes no sense for him to be involved today.

Greatest January transfers of all time: Who are the best winter signings in Premier League history?

Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk pictured on August 25, 2024
© Imago

The January transfer market has often proved difficult to do business in, but some of the Premier League's best ever signings have been completed in the winter window.

There have been cases where clubs have signed players for significant sums and come to regret their purchase, and these transfers have often materialised out of desperation to address glaring weaknesses.

The infamous swap deal between Manchester United and Arsenal involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alexis Sanchez in January 2018 was disastrous for all involved, with neither forward settling at their new teams.

However, there are countless examples of players arriving in the winter and going on to win major silverware, or becoming legends at their respective clubs.

Despite having at least a full month to strengthen their squads or move players on, many clubs often find themselves scrambling in the final hours to secure last-minute deals that could prove pivotal in defining the remainder of their seasons.

That seems to be the case once again this year, with several high-profile transfers still up in the air as the countdown ticks towards its final moments.

Angel delight for Ange? Three players Spurs could sign on deadline day

Axel Disasi of Chelsea on August 22, 2024
© Imago

If a largely atrocious start to 2025 is anything to go by, Tottenham Hotspur's perennial Premier League status is under a small amount of threat as Ange Postecoglou's men compete in the lower echelons of the top-flight table.

In fewer than two years, Spurs fans have gone from revelling in the Australian's fast-paced, attack-minded philosophy to demanding Daniel Levy cede control of the club yet again, although the unpopular chairman should have cut a happier figure in Sunday's 2-0 win at Brentford.

A debilitating injury crisis has not helped Postecoglou's efforts in North London, and the Tottenham boss has also received little help from the powers upstairs, who have failed to convince either Mathys Tel or Fikayo Tomori to swap Bayern Munich or AC Milan for a bottom-half Premier League club.

However, the clouds briefly parted on Sunday morning when the Lilywhites announced the capture of Kevin Danso on loan from Lens with an obligation to buy, and further late arrivals are a distinct possibility.

Dusan or David on deadline day? Four strikers Arsenal could realistically target

Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic on December 7, 2024
© Imago

Flash back to January 2022, where Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left for Barcelona in acrimonious circumstances, Alexandre Lacazette was in decline, and Arsenal fans were crying out for a clinical option in the final third.

Those pleas fell on deaf ears, as Mikel Arteta's side failed to strike a deal for that ruthless finisher and ultimately paid the price for it, missing out on a top-four finish by a whisker as North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur nabbed the final Champions League spot.

Three years later, a similar tale is unfolding at the Emirates, where the Gunners are yet to welcome a single new face to the club on the men's side despite losing both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus to serious injuries over the past couple of months.

An overworked Kai Havertz and under-experienced Nathan Butler-Oyedeji represent Arsenal's only two recognised centre-forward options at present, and should the Gunners not manage to address such shortages before 11pm on Monday, their already thin hopes of reining in Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table will be diminished further.

Real's injury crisis: Will Los Blancos reinforce defence after Rudiger's injury?

Real Madrid are reportedly determined not to change plans in the final day of the January transfer market despite Antonio Rudiger suffering an injury.

Los Blancos were beaten 1-0 by Espanyol on February 1 in La Liga, with Carlos Romero's 85th-minute goal enough to condemn Carlo Ancelotti's side to their first defeat in six games.

More concerning for the Italian manager than the defeat will be the injury suffered by Rudiger, who went down in the 15th minute with what Real say was "an injury to the biceps femoris in his right leg".

The defender now joins Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal on the sidelines, with both set to miss the rest of the season due to serious knee injuries.
