Preview: Luton Town vs. Millwall - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Luton Town and Millwall, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Luton Town and Millwall meet in the Championship on Tuesday evening with both teams having the opportunity to strengthen their hold of a playoff spot.

The teams head into the fixture at Kenilworth Road sitting in sixth and fifth position in the standings respectively after victories at the weekend.

Since their surprise 3-0 defeat to Grimsby Town in the FA Cup fourth round, Luton have lost their way to a certain degree, collecting just two points from the three matches that followed.

However, Rob Edwards's side produced an encouraging performance even in defeat to Burnley on February 18, and it provided them with the platform to edge out Birmingham City in their next fixture.

Carlton Morris's 13th goal of the campaign earned a 1-0 victory at St Andrew's, securing a result which moved the Hatters back into sixth and with an opportunity to progress further into fourth.

Each of Luton's last three victories in the Championship have been by 1-0 scorelines, and they have failed to score more than once in each of their most recent six outings.

Nevertheless, just four goals have been shipped in seven second-tier fixtures, which should leave Edwards more than satisfied with his team's resilience ahead of one of the most important games of their season.

Millwall have remarkably not posted back-to-back victories since October, yet there is a perception that they are currently one of the strongest teams in the division.

The Lions have come through fixtures with Sheffield United, Burnley and Stoke City with seven points, a potential season-defining return as they bid to earn what would be regarded as a surprise promotion.

Gary Rowett's side have lost eight of their 17 away fixtures this campaign, but five of their six victories on the road have been posted since November 12.

Shutouts have been a rarity of late, with the one at Stoke City just their second clean sheet in eight attempts, although Millwall head into this encounter having lost just two of their most recent 12 league contests.

Team News

Millwall's Tom Bradshaw celebrates scoring their first goal on February 21, 2023© Reuters

Edwards may have to make at least two changes to his Luton XI after Reece Burke and Morris suffered injuries in the second half versus Blues.

With Dan Potts having also picked up an issue in the warm-up, Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu could have to deputise in the back three, allowing for Allan Campbell's return.

If Morris misses out with a shoulder problem, Cauley Woodrow should be brought into the attack.

Having played the majority of the fixture at Stoke, Tom Bradshaw has shaken off an issue with his ankle and should start this match.

Rotation is possible in midfield with this being Millwall's fourth game in quick succession, but Rowett may be prepared to select an unchanged team.

Luton Town possible starting lineup:
Horvath; Mpanzu, Osho, Bell; Drameh, Nakamba, Campbell, Doughty; Clark; Woodrow, Adebayo

Millwall possible starting lineup:
Long; McNamara, Cresswell, Cooper, Wallace; Shackleton, Saville; Honeyman, Flemming, Voglsammer; Bradshaw

We say: Luton Town 1-1 Millwall

This has all the makings of a highly-competitive fixture, making it difficult to predict a winner. All things considered, both clubs would probably accept a point if it was offered to them, and a share of the spoils appears to be the most likely outcome.
