Weather Report: Showery start, risk of thunder in London

Sports Mole brings you the latest weather report on the day of the Olympic Games opening ceremony at London 2012.

Good morning and welcome to Sports Mole's weather update on the official opening day of the Olympic Games.

The main event is the opening ceremony to mark the start of London 2012, which is due to begin at 7pm at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford this evening.

There are expected to be risks of thunder across the UK during the day, with rain showers likely to descend between 1pm and 5pm, with sunny spells.

The temperatures from 6am are around 16 degrees and are expected to rise to 21 degrees as we reach midday.

At the time of the opening ceremony, which has been created by film director Danny Boyle, the weather should be cloudy with a temperature of around 22 degrees, which should then drop to 19 degrees as the opening ceremony comes to an end at midnight.

While there were earlier suggestions that rain could mar the historic event, this evening, the forecast indicates that during the ceremony, it should remain cloudy with little risk of rain.
