Greek high jumper fails drug test

Greek high jumper Dimitrios Chondrokoukis has pulled out of the Olympics after testing positive for a banned substance.

The 22-year-old, who is the world indoor champion, was found to have the steroid stanozolol in his system.

Chondrokoukis's father Kyriakos posted a statement on www.ekathimerini.com confirming the positive test.

"Dimitris will not take part in the Olympic Games, leaving unfulfilled a dream of a lifetime," he said.

Chondrokoukis becomes the second Greek athlete to leave the Games in disgrace following triple jumper Voula Papachristou's exclusion for an alleged racist remark.
