France rugby players questioned after sexual assault allegations

Members of the France rugby union squad have been quizzed by police at Edinburgh Airport as "potential witnesses" in a sexual assault investigation.

Posting on Twitter, governing body French Rugby Union confirmed that a number of its players were questioned by the authorities after an incident was reported in the Scottish capital over the weekend.

Police Scotland later issued a statement confirming that their enquiries established that no crime had been committed.

"Following an initial report of sexual assault in Edinburgh city centre during the early hours of Monday 12 February, police conducted various lines of inquiry, including speaking to a number of potential witnesses," the statement read.

"These inquiries have established that no crime has been committed."

The France squad, who were leaving Edinburgh following their defeat to Scotland in the Six Nations on Sunday, were delayed for two hours at the airport while police conducted their inquiries.
