"Two strikers": What the Gunners need to do to close Premier League gap to Reds

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour exclusively told Sports Mole that the Gunners could need up to two strikers in order to win the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta will lead his side out at the Emirates against Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday, but his side are 11 points behind league-leaders Liverpool.

The Reds have scored 72 goals in the top flight this season - the best return of any team - and have found the back of the net 16 more times than the Gunners have managed so far.

Speaking to Sports Mole, Parlour argued that the Londoners may need to look to sign two strikers to close the gap to Liverpool next season, saying: "[Mikel Merino] has come in, and he's a midfielder more, but he got his goal [against Real Madrid]. He seems to be knocking the goals in a little bit like Havertz did when he went up front.

Manchester City's Kyle Walker replacement mission has reportedly suffered a setback, as rumoured target Daniel Munoz has put pen to paper on a new deal with Crystal Palace.

The Citizens were rumoured to have been keeping an eye on the Colombia international as a potential successor to Walker, whose time at the Etihad Stadium is seemingly reaching its natural conclusion.

The veteran right-back was loaned to Italian giants AC Milan in the January transfer window with a view to a permanent move in the summer, although he may now miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on an elbow injury.

There are now growing doubts about whether Milan will sign Walker permanently at the end of the season following his injury blow, and the 34-year-old could therefore still return to the Etihad this summer.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim will supposedly hold 'showdown talks' with Marcus Rashford if the Englishman returns from his loan spell at Aston Villa this summer.

The 27-year-old has come good under Unai Emery since temporarily leaving his boyhood club in January, registering three goals and five assists in 13 appearances for the Lions.

Rashford was involved in the build-up to Morgan Rogers's goal in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final with Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, although his side still fell to a painful 3-1 defeat at the Parc des Princes.

While Villa are facing an uphill task in Europe, they have a golden chance to reach the FA Cup final ahead of their semi with Crystal Palace on April 26, while they are still in with a shot of UCL qualification via the Premier League as they sit seventh in the table.

Pep Guardiola has insisted that his Manchester City side are ready for the challenge of trying to secure Champions League football for next season despite enduring an injury-hit campaign.

After winning an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title last season, Man City find themselves sitting a whopping 21 points behind champions-elect Liverpool at the summit, with a disappointing drop-off in form and several fitness issues contributing to their decline.

After playing out a dull goalless stalemate with rivals Manchester United last weekend, City's Champions League hopes remain in the balance, but they are one of a number of clubs who have been boosted by the news that finishing fifth in the Premier League will secure a place at Europe's top table next season.

Man City head into Saturday lunchtime's clash with Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium sitting in sixth spot and one point behind both Chelsea in fourth and Newcastle United in fifth, the latter of whom have a game in hand.

Nottingham Forest will reportedly demand a nine-figure fee for Manchester City-linked midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.

It was recently reported that the 25-year-old is one of multiple candidates who has been identified by Pep Guardiola's side as a possible replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, who will be leaving the Etihad Stadium when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz is also on Man City's radar and he, along with Gibbs-White, are expected to feature in the Citizens' transfer deliberations this summer.

The Citizens intend to prioritise transfer targets as soon as new sporting director Hugo Viana is fully embedded into his role at the Etihad, with the Portuguese to initially work alongside outgoing chief Txiki Begiristain during a transition period.

The current focus of the Catalan giants is on the pitch with Hansi Flick still able to deliver the quadruple in his first season in charge.

That is despite Barcelona being without first-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen since September due to a serious knee injury.

Wojciech Szczesny, signed on a free transfer shortly afterwards, came out of retirement to become Barcelona's number one in recent months, playing a key role in their recent success.

The Premier League leaders confirmed on Friday morning that the 32-year-old had put pen to paper on fresh terms, ending a long-running saga that had partially overshadowed Slot's first season at the club.

Slot had to bat away questions about Salah's future almost every week in his press conferences, as the ex-Chelsea and Roma man could have originally walked out of the door for nothing at the end of the season.

However, speaking to journalists in Friday's press conference shortly after Salah's deal was confirmed, the Dutchman revealed that he knew negotiations were heading in the right direction for a while, saying: "For the fans, it's a relief.

The 21-year-old has featured on 34 occasions for Barcelona during the 2024-25 campaign, and he has impressive numbers for the Catalan team, scoring five goals and registering eight assists in the process.

There has recently been speculation surrounding Fermin's future, and it is believed that Manchester United are huge admirers of the Spaniard, who has the potential to operate as one of the number 10s in Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 system at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are said to have approached Barcelona during the January market to register their interest in the midfielder, with a verbal offer of €70m (£61m) believed to have been made.

Liverpool have confirmed that Mohamed Salah has signed a new contract at the club, and the Egyptian attacker has also revealed the length of his new terms.

Salah was due to become a free agent at the end of the 2024-25 season and remained a prime target for the Saudi Pro League following Al-Ittihad's failed £150m offer in the summer of 2023.

The former Chelsea and Roma man repeatedly added fuel to the fire surrounding his situation, stating several times that he was playing this season as if it was his last at Liverpool and also claiming that he was "more out than in" of the club in late 2024.

However, both Liverpool and Salah were keen to continue their partnership for a little while longer, and a few days after a breakthrough was said to have been reached, the Reds have confirmed the attacker's extension.
