Preview: Notts County vs. Wrexham - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between Notts County and Wrexham, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Second plays first in the National League on Tuesday night, as Notts County host Wrexham at Meadow Lane.

Both teams have made impressive starts to the season, and will know that whoever wins will end the night at the top of the table.

Notts County manager Luke Williams will be very pleased with how his team have started the season, amassing 24 points from their opening 11 games and currently sitting second in the table, two points behind league leaders and Tuesday's opponents Wrexham.

The Magpies come into the game having won in six of their last seven outings, with a 3-1 defeat away at newly-promoted Dorking Wanderers the only outlier in an otherwise perfect record, which has seen them rise up the table considerably after only winning one of their first four games.

On Saturday, striker Macaulay Langstaff was once again the star of the show as the 25-year-old bagged a brace in a 3-1 victory against Altrincham, taking his tally to 14 league goals this season, the highest in the league and clear by four goals of his nearest rival.

Largely due to Langstaff's goal contributions, Notts County boast the second-highest goal tally in the league with 27, and have so far scored in every game this season, such is their threat in attacking areas of the pitch, while also having an undefeated home record with four wins and one draw at Meadow Lane.

With an impressive record against Wrexham in recent years, winning three and drawing two of the five matches contested between the two teams since 2019, The Magpies will go into Tuesday's game full of confidence, knowing they have it in their locker to get a result against this strong Wrexham side.

League leaders Wrexham will have one of their toughest tests so far when they travel to Notts County on Tuesday night, but they will be boosted by a brilliant late turnaround in their last match against Oldham Athletic.

Ben Tozer scored an equaliser in the 85th minute, and Paul Mullin converted a last-gasp penalty to send the Wrexham fans who made the trip to Boundary Park into ecstasy.

The result also sent them to the National League's summit, with previous table-toppers Chesterfield losing at home to Maidenhead in a surprise result, an added bonus for Phil Parkinson's side.

The aforementioned Mullin has been at the forefront of Wrexham's fantastic start to the season, with nine league goals to his name so far, with strike partner Ollie Palmer also helping the Welsh side on their way by scoring seven goals of his own, and The Dragons have the best attacking record in the league.

Phil Parkinson will be wary that his team's only dropped points this season came in an away trips, losing 2-0 at Chesterfield in August and also drawing away at Yeovil Town and Southend United, so the Wrexham manager knows that his players will have to be at their best when coming up against one of the league's best teams on Tuesday night.

Team News

Notts County manager Luke Williams made two changes to his side for the victory over Altrincham on Saturday, with forward Cedwyn Scott returning to the team, and Tobi Adebayo-Rowling playing his first full 90 minutes since signing for the club in the summer.

Both players rewarded their manager's faith in them, with Scott linking up well with strike partner Macaulay Langstaff and being unlucky not to earn a penalty for The Magpies, while Adebayo-Rowling was impressive going forward and played a key role in his team's second goal.

As such, Notts County should line up with very few, if any changes to the team that secured all three points on Saturday, with no fresh injury concerns.

For Wrexham, Jacob Mendy will miss out after sustaining a hamstring injury in their last home game against Torquay, with the defender set to be out for six weeks.

Other than that, their side has been settled and they have deployed a 4-4-2 formation to great success so far this season, with strike partners Mullin and Palmer starting every game, so Parkinson seemingly has no reason to make any changes to his side.

Ben Tozer scored the equalising goal on Saturday, atoning for an error he made that led to his side going behind, and is likely to start in the centre of the defence alongside Aaron Hayden.

Notts County possible starting lineup:
Slocombe; Cameron, Chicksen, Adebayo-Rowling, Brindley, Rawlinson; De Castro, Rodrigues, Palmer; Scott, Langstaff

Wrexham possible starting lineup:
Howard; Cleworth, Tozer, Hayden, McFadzean; Forde, Jones, Young, Davies; Palmer, Mullin

SM words green background

We say: Notts County 1-1 Wrexham

It is too difficult to split the two teams with them both in such good form and Notts County undefeated so far at Meadow Lane. As a result, we have this one as a draw, which would see Wrexham remain at the top of the National League table.
