Preview: Millwall vs. Hull City - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Millwall and Hull City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Hull City will look to bounce back from their recent FA Cup exit when they travel to The Den for Saturday's Championship meeting with Millwall.

Meanwhile, the Lions will be hoping to claim a second straight victory after sweeping past Dagenham & Redbridge in the FA Cup.

Millwall are currently sitting in 14th place in the Championship table, having won seven, drawn nine and lost nine of their 25 league matches this season.

The Lions have found it tough going in recent Championship outings, taking just two points from four games since recording a narrow win over Blackburn Rovers on December 21.

They fell to defeats against Norwich City and Oxford United, either side of a goalless draw against Coventry City, before they gave up a 2-1 lead to draw 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month.

Despite struggling in recent league matches, the Lions made light work of Monday's FA Cup third-round clash against Dagenham & Redbridge, with Mihailo Ivanovic, Casper De Norre and Ra'ees Bangura-Williams all finding the net in a 3-0 victory.

While they may been playing non-league opposition, Millwall would have taken confidence from the fact that they scored more than one more goal in a home game for the first time since the end of September.

They will now turn their focus to Saturday's league fixture, with the hosts looking to beat Hull for the first time since recording a 2-1 April 2022.

In contrast to Millwall, Hull experienced a disappointment in their recent FA Cup outing, losing on penalties to League Two Doncaster Rovers after playing out a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes of action.

After suffering a fourth consecutive third-round exit, the Tigers will turn their full focus to their Championship survival bid for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.

Having taken just 23 points from 26 league matches, Hull are languishing in 22nd place and one point adrift from safety.

Ruben Selles has experienced mixed results since taking over the reins in December, having won two, drawn two and lost three of his seven league matches in charge.

The former Reading boss would have been pleased with the fight that his team showed in their most recent Championship fixture against Leeds United, scoring two late goals to rescue a 3-3 draw at the MKM Stadium.

Hull have managed to avoid in each of their last five meetings with Millwall, including a goalless draw in the reverse fixture in August, although they have not won at the Den since recording a 1-0 win in February 2013.

Team News

The hosts are expected to be without the services of Josh Coburn, Calum Scanlon and Aidomo Emakhu due to injury.

Striker Tom Bradshaw recently completed a move to Oxford United, while Romain Esse is reportedly close to joining Premier League Crystal Palace.

However, Neil will be able to call upon forward Aaron Connolly, who has arrived from Sunderland to become Millwall's first signing of the winter transfer window.

As for the visitors, they remain without long-term absentees Mohamed Belloumi and Liam Millar, while Charlie Hughes and Kasey Palmer are set to miss out due to hamstring and ankle problems respectively.

There are also doubts surrounding the availability of Steven Alzate, Fin Burns, Gonzalo Puerta, Ryan Longman, Abdus Omur and Matty Jacob.

Midfielder Matt Crooks and forward Joe Gelhardt will feature in the matchday squad after recently joining the club on permanent and loan deals respectively.

Millwall possible starting lineup:
Jensen; Leonard, Tanganga, Cooper, Bryan; De Norre, Saville; Azeez, Honeyman, Mayor; Ivanovic

Hull City possible starting lineup:

We say: Millwall 1-1 Hull City

Millwall and Hull have drawn three of their last five head-to-head matches, including their previous two meetings at The Den, and we think that they could cancel one another out to play out a familiar result in Saturday's league clash.
