Leeds United are reportedly looking for a defensive midfielder in this summer's transfer window, as cover and competition for England international Kalvin Phillips.

Leeds United have reportedly set their sights on signing a new defensive midfielder this summer as an alternative to England international Kalvin Phillips.

Marcelo Bielsa's side have been without Phillips for nine Premier League games this season as the 25-year-old has suffered with injuries, most recently missing Saturday's defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Robin Koch, Pascal Struijk and Mateusz Klich have all taken their turn to fill the boots of Phillips in his absence, but those changes usually drag the trio out of their favoured positions.

Football Insider reports that the director of football at Elland Road, Victor Orta, is compiling a shortlist of potential midfielders who could provide cover and competition for Phillips.

It is believed that the Whites have £32m in the bank to spend and that figure is expected to rise when the next broadcasting income arrives.

Leeds currently sit 11th in the Premier League with four games to play.
