Liverpool have reportedly submitted a deal sheet for the signing of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
The Reds appeared to be closing in on the England international, only for the transfer to be thrown into doubt in the closing stages of the summer window.
Palace's difficulty in signing a replacement has led to speculation about whether the proposed move could fall through.
It has been reported that Guehi has held talks with Palace manager Oliver Glasner to ascertain whether the transfer is still possible.
Liverpool submit Guehi deal sheet
According to journalist Mike McGrath, Liverpool have submitted a deal sheet for Guehi, who has completed a medical ahead of his proposed move.
A deal sheet allows the two clubs to confirm that a transfer has been agreed and gives all parties more time to finalise the deal.
Guehi and Liverpool are both keen for the transfer to be pushed through, but they are waiting for Palace to give the green light.
Glasner is reluctant to sell one of Palace's key players without getting a suitable replacement through the door.
Liverpool face nervous wait for Guehi decision
The Eagles have seen a move for Igor Julio fall through, although they have recruited Jaydee Canvot from Ligue 1 side Toulouse.
However, Glasner may not view the 19-year-old as Guehi's successor due to his inexperience, considering that he has made just 22 senior appearances.
Meanwhile, it does not appear that Palace have any other deals in the pipeline for a new central defender, especially as the 7pm deadline has now passed.
The Eagles seemingly face a dilemma of whether to sell Guehi without a replacement, or keep the 25-year-old and risk losing him on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer.
