Liverpool transfer news: Reds 'hit a snag' in deadline day pursuit of Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi

'Unknown problem' - Liverpool 'hit a snag' in deadline day Guehi move

Liverpool have reportedly encountered a problem as they aim to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi on deadline day.

The 25-year-old was a key factor in the Eagles' success in the Premier League on Sunday when they travelled to Aston Villa.

Guehi netted his first goal of the season, curling a sensational effort past Marco Bizot to put Palace further ahead in the second half.

The centre-back has started all three Premier League matches for Oliver Glasner's side this season despite intensifying transfer speculation.

After the international break in September, the Eagles face newly-promoted Sunderland at Selhurst Park, although Guehi could be in Liverpool colours by that time.

Liverpool 'hit a snag' in high-profile Guehi deal

According to The Times, Liverpool have hit a snag in their proposed deal to bring Guehi to Anfield from Crystal Palace this summer.

The report claims that the Eagles have encountered an issue in bringing a defensive replacement for the 25-year-old to Selhurst Park.

It is understood that Palace want to confirm reinforcements at centre-back before sanctioning the exit of Guehi to the Premier League holders.

The England international is supposedly in the process of completing a medical with the Reds ahead of a £35m move to Merseyside.

As per transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the proposed move of Brighton & Hove Albion defender Igor Julio to the Eagles has collapsed.

Deadline day domino effect

With Guehi all-but ready to sign on the dotted line and secure a career-changing move to the English champions, the deadline day domino effect is threatening to ruin the deal.

Understandably, Crystal Palace want to ensure that they sort out  adequate replacements for the 25-year-old before agreeing to the £35m move.

At the training ground sitting nervously with Guehi in the building, Liverpool chiefs must now wait for the green light from the Eagles.
