Liverpool transfer news: 'Here we go' as Marc Guehi deal agreed, with price, sell-on clause revealed for centre-back

Guehi 'here we go': Deal agreed as price, sell-on clause revealed for defender

Liverpool have reportedly agreed a fee of over £35m to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, with a 10% sell-on clause also included in the package.

Arne Slot's side will enter the international break at the top of the Premier League table following their 1-0 victory against Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday.

The victory means that the club can now focus on finalising their summer transfer business before the closure of the window at 7PM on Monday.

Reds supporters are set to enjoy a historic deadline day considering the club have struck a deal with Newcastle United for the transfer of Alexander Isak, but they have also seemingly convinced Palace to sell defender Guehi.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has exclusively revealed that Palace have relented on their refusal to sell Guehi and will now allow the centre-back to complete a move to Anfield, with personal terms having already been agreed a month prior.

Marc Guehi deal: Price and sell-on clause assessed

The initial price of Guehi is undoubtedly low for someone of his quality, especially considering the likes of Wesley Fofana and Josko Gvardiol were signed by Chelsea and Manchester City for £75m and £77m respectively.

Guehi only has one year left on his contract, so it is understandable that Palace have had to accept a lower fee, but the addition of the Englishman to Slot's squad for under £40m would still be excellent business.

The 10% sell-on clause could indicate that Liverpool envisage a future without the Englishman, as while the 25-year-old is among the division's best at the back, he could find it difficult to break into Liverpool's first team over the next years.

Virgil van Dijk is certain to be a starter on the left until at least the end of 2026-27, while the club are actively trying to extend the contract of Ibrahima Konate, meaning Guehi could face significant competition for a place in the XI.

How have Liverpool managed to sign Isak and Guehi?

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes was criticised for a perceived lack of activity in the summer of 2024, but once the deals for Guehi and Isak are finalised, the club will have spent significantly in excess of £400m.

Hughes can be said to have acted opportunistically in regard to Guehi considering Palace were likely to sell their captain due to his contract situation, and the sporting director has subsequently managed to agree a good fee for the defender.

Though the fee for Isak will be in the region of £125m, many thought that the Swede would command a price much closer to £150m, but the striker's steadfast desire to join Liverpool - he has refused to take part in training - has forced Newcastle to sell him for a somewhat reduced fee.
