Guehi to Liverpool latest: Crystal Palace defender to hold Oliver Glasner 'showdown talks' with Reds transfer on brink of collapse

Guehi to hold Glasner 'showdown' talks with Liverpool switch on brink of collapse

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is reportedly holding talks with manager Oliver Glasner amid uncertainty surrounding his proposed move to Liverpool.

Liverpool appeared to be making significant progress in their efforts to sign Guehi after reaching an agreement with Palace over a £35m deal.

However, it has since been reported that Guehi's move is at risk of falling through due to Palace's difficulty in finding a replacement.

The Eagles were believed to be working on a deal to recruit Igor Julio from Brighton & Hove Albion, but that move has now fallen through.

Guehi to hold Glasner showdown talks

According to The Athletic, Guehi's move to Liverpool is in jeopardy despite completing part of his medical in London.

Guehi is now set to hold showdown talks with Glasner to make a final decision as to whether he joins Liverpool or stays at Selhurst Park.

The Palace boss has previously made it clear that he is reluctant to sanction Guehi's departure without signing a suitable replacement.

If Guehi stays, Palace will run the risk of their captain leaving on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer.

Could Canvot facilitate Guehi's Liverpool move?

Palace are said to be on the verge of signing 19-year-old centre-back Jaydee Canvot from French side Toulouse.

Canvot's arrival would bolster Glasner's central defensive options, which may pave the way for Guehi to join the Premier League champions.

However, it is currently unclear whether Glasner believes that Canvot is ready to take over the mantle from Guehi, or if he is viewed as a player for the future.
