Leicester vs. Man City - prediction, team news, lineups

Manchester City Women will travel to the King Power Stadium for Sunday's Women's Super League meeting with Leicester City Women.

The Foxes are languishing in 10th place in the WSL table, while the visitors are in fourth position with matches left to play.

Match preview

Leicester are sitting seven points above the drop zone after winning four, drawing four and losing 11 of their 19 league matches this season.

The Foxes recorded their most recent victory in a home game against Brighton last month, but they struggled to build upon that 3-2 win in their last two matches.

They played out a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, before they fell to a heavy 5-1 defeat against Arsenal at Meadow Park, representing their eighth consecutive WSL away loss.

In fact, Leicester have the joint-worst away record in the division after collecting just two points from their nine road trips, but fortunately for the Foxes, their away struggles are unlikely to prove too costly, given the fact that they boast a seven-point gap to basement side Crystal Palace with just three matches left to play.

With Leicester on the brink of safety, they will be pleased to have home advantage for Sunday's fixture, having avoided defeat in each of their last five home league games since they lost to Manchester United in November (W3, D2).

Nick Cushing has experienced a difficult period in his second stint as Man City boss, having overseen just two wins in seven competitive games while having to contend with an injury crisis.

The first four of those matches all took place against Chelsea, including a defeat in the Women's League Cup final and a 3-2 aggregate defeat in the Women's Champions League quarter-finals.

While they returned to winning ways in a league game against Brighton & Hove Albion, Man City experienced more disappointment when they lost 2-0 to Manchester United in the Women's FA Cup semi-finals, ending their hopes of finishing the season with a piece of silverware.

Their fading hopes of securing a top-three finish were then dealt a significant blow in last Sunday's 1-1 draw against Everton, leaving them seven points adrift of third-placed Man United with just three games left to play.

They will at least fancy their chances of taking maximum points from Sunday's fixture, given the fact that they won three of their previous four away league matches (D1).

Team News

Leicester boss Amandine Miquel has confirmed that she has no fresh injury issues to worry about ahead of the weekend.

However, it is currently unclear whether Sari Kees and Chantelle Swaby will be able to return from their respective injuries.

Missy Goodwin could be given more minutes off the bench after recovering from illness to make a substitute appearance in the defeat to Arsenal.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call upon Risa Shimizu, Aoba Fujino, Laura Blindkilde-Brown, Vivianne Miedema, Bunny Shaw and Mary Fowler.

Alex Greenwood is stepping up her injury recovery, although the defender will not be ready to return against Leicester.

However, Cushing has confirmed that Lauren Hemp is available to feature in a matchday squad for the first time since November.

Leicester City Women possible starting lineup: Leitzig; Bott, Howard, Thibaud, Ale; Tierney, Cayman; Cain, Momiki, Chossenotte; O'Brien

Manchester City Women possible starting lineup: Keating; Casparij, Prior, Knaak, Ouahabi; Aleixandri, Hasegawa; Coombs, Park, Murphy; Kerolin

We say: Leicester City Women 1-2 Manchester City Women

Man City may be experiencing a difficult run of form, but we still believe that they have the extra quality required to see off Leicester in Sunday's fixture, especially as they have won all seven of their previous WSL meetings with the Foxes.
