Preview: Dundee vs. St Mirren - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Scottish Premiership clash between Dundee and St Mirren, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Two teams in the top half of the Scottish Premiership will meet on Saturday as Dundee welcomes St Mirren to Dens Park.

The hosts head into the weekend on the back of a victory during their most recent outing, while the visitors have gone consecutive games without a win.

Match preview

Dundee responded positively to being defeated 5-0 against Rangers by keeping a clean sheet at the weekend as they defeated Livingston to immediately get back to winning ways.

A goal from Luke McCowan proved to be enough on the day to secure three points for the Dark Blues, allowing the team to progress into sixth place in the division.

It continued their impressive run as of late with Dundee having only lost once in their previous six outings in the league, which has allowed them to be in a strong position heading into the busy winter period.

However, the Dark Blues have been draw specialists this season, with only one team in the Scottish Premiership having shared points more than them, with the need to be slightly more clinical being clear.

Three points this weekend does give the team the chance to fourth place if other results go in their favour, which would lead to them sitting directly behind St Mirren.

The visitors will be wary of that, but shall be focusing on trying to simply get back to winning games after going consecutive matches without securing three points.

A defeat against Celtic was followed up by a midweek draw against Hibernian, but that will have felt like a win due to the fact they came from behind twice.

Lewis Jamieson managed to score a 92nd-minute equaliser to rescue a point which helped to secure their position in third place in the division.

While the gap between them and the Old Firm rivals above them is starting to grow, they do still sit two points above Kilmarnock, which is something they will be hoping to extend.

St Mirren have had mixed results when it comes to away games this season with two draws and victories, but with only one defeat so far on the road.

Team News

Scott Tiffoney missed out for Dundee at the weekend due to injury, and he is expected to be on the sidelines once again this weekend.

Jordan McGhee, Lyall Cameron and Zak Rudden were all brought into the starting XI for the victory against Livingston, and after a positive result, the Dark Blues might opt to make no changes.

Jamieson made an impact from the bench in midweek for the visitors by scoring a last-minute equaliser, and he could end up being given another opportunity in this fixture.

Jonah Ayunga is an injury worry for St Mirren, and that is something that is set to continue for this weekend.

Dundee possible starting lineup:
Carson; Lamie, Portales, Shaughnessy; Cameron, McCowan, Sylla, Boateng, Beck; Rudden, Bakayoko

St Mirren possible starting lineup:
Hemming; Fraser, Gogic, Taylor; Strain, Boyd-Munce, O'Hara, Tanser; McMenamin, Olusanya, Kiltie

We say: Dundee 1-1 St Mirren

Dundee are in good form at the moment, and considering the mixed performances that the visitors are providing this could end up being a close fixture.

Seeing the two teams battle it out to a draw would not be a surprise with that in mind.
