Preview: Dundee vs. Livingston - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Scottish Premiership clash between Dundee and Livingston, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Dundee welcome Livingston to Dens Park for a Scottish Premiership encounter just a week after the two sides met in the reverse fixture.

Livingston were undone by two late goals by Joe Shaughnessy and will be looking to exact revenge at a venue where they have enjoyed success in recent times.

Last week was one of the rare occasions where Dundee have won a game this season, as they have been one of the main culprits of drawing matches in a Premiership season which has been littered with them so far.

Having drawn half of their matches so far, Dundee enjoyed just a second win of the season last weekend, but they have been tough to beat, as only the current top three have got the better of them.

Goals are a problem though, as only bottom-of-the-table St Johnstone have scored fewer than their nine.

Tony Docherty's side drew another blank in midweek with their four-game unbeaten run coming to an end as they felt the wrath of a rampant Rangers side.

Dundee had not conceded a goal in three matches, but were absolutely thrashed by the Glasgow giants, letting in five goals without reply, while the stats made for grim reading too, further backing up Rangers' domination.

Docherty will hope that damaging result does not detract too much from what was an excellent away win against their upcoming opponents last weekend.

Even though Dundee are down in ninth, the majority of the league are bunched together with just a few points separating fourth from 11th, so a short run of good form could catapult any side up the table.

Having won at Livingston last week though, Dundee actually have a poor recent record at home against them, having not scored in any of the previous four meetings here, despite winning the three games prior to this run all without conceding.

Livingston were dominant in their last visit to Dens Park, thrashing their upcoming hosts 4-0 back in February 2022 after an excellent first-half performance which saw them three-up at the break.

David Martindale will hope his side can avenge last weekend's late defeat by extending their unbeaten run at this stadium to five games.

In order to do so though, they will need to end a run of three straight defeats which has seen Livingston slip to 11th.

A late defeat at Hearts may have appeared cruel, but they were never in the game and were completely dominated at Tynecastle, failing to register a single shot on target.

The current poor run has come as something of a surprise considering Livingston only lost two of their first seven games, and they came against Rangers and Celtic.

Livingston desperately need to arrest this current run as they have two of the top three up next after this one - Rangers and St Mirren.

Team News

Josh Mulligan is the only injury absentee for Dundee, as he will miss the whole of November with a hernia.

Shaughnessy's double from defence against Livingston last week means he doubled his tally from the entirety of last season in the space of three minutes at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

Those two goals means he is the only Dundee player to have scored more than one league goal so far this season, despite being almost a third of the way through the campaign.

Jack Hamilton was sensational in goal for Livingston in midweek, making nine saves despite defeat at Hearts.

The goalkeeper was making his first appearance of the season, replacing Shamal George, who dropped to the bench, and Hamilton should have done enough to keep his place in the side.

Cristian Montano is still suspended after he was sent off against Dundee last week following a stamp on Malachi Boateng.

After being replaced by Stephen Kelly up front for the midweek defeat at Tynecastle, joint-top scorer Bruce Anderson should return to the starting XI here.

Dundee possible starting lineup:
Carson; Lamie, Donnelly, Shaughnessy; Portales, McCowan, Sylla, Boateng, Beck; Tiffoney, Bakayoko

Livingston possible starting lineup:
Hamilton; Welch-Hayes, Devlin, Se. Kelly, Penrice; Shinnie, Pittman, Sangare, Holt; Anderson, Nouble

We say: Dundee 0-0 Livingston

Both sides are among the lowest scorers in the division, with neither yet in double figures, and another drab affair could be on the cards after both were well below par in midweek.

The reverse fixture last weekend was looking certain to end 0-0 until Montano's late red card changed everything, leading to Shaughnessy's two late goals.
