Preview: Charlton Athletic vs. Wrexham - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's League One clash between Charlton Athletic and Wrexham, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Wrexham will attempt to extend their three-game unbeaten league run when they travel to The Valley for Saturday's clash with Charlton Athletic.

The Red Dragons are sitting in second place in the League One table, while the visitors will head into the weekend in 11th position.

Match preview

Charlton may be unbeaten in three matches, but they are finding wins hard to come by after winning just one of their last six games.

The Addicks began that run of games with three consecutive defeats, before they claimed an impressive 1-0 win over leaders Birmingham City.

Since that narrow win, Nathan Jones's side have on to play out back-to-back draws against Stockport County and Barnsley.

Charlton would have been bitterly disappointed to miss out on maximum points in their midweek away game against Barnsley after they fought back from behind to establish a 2-1 lead thanks to a Luke Berry brace.

Berry thought that he had won the game with his second effort in the 93rd minute, only to see his strike cancelled out by Max Watters's dramatic equaliser, leaving Charlton without a win in three consecutive away matches.

They will now return to The Valley for their first competitive meeting with Wrexham since claiming a 1-0 victory in February 1982.

Wrexham are currently sitting in the second automatic promotion spot after winning seven, drawing three and losing two of their 12 league games.

Since losing to Stevenage earlier this month, the Red Dragons have gone on to take seven points from a possible nine.

They swept past Northampton Town with minimum fuss, before they claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Rotherham United.

Phil Parkinson's side were unable to clinch a third consecutive league victory in midweek, as their 100% home record came to an end with a goalless home draw against Huddersfield Town.

While they may have missed out on three points, they would have been pleased to produce another resolute display to leave them with the joint-best defensive record alongside Exeter City.

The Red Dragons will head on their travels with hopes of claiming consecutive away wins for the first time in League One this season.

Team News

The hosts are expected to be without the injured quartet of Lloyd Jones, Kayne Ramsay, Gassan Ahadme and Chuks Aneke.

Berry is likely to be rewarded with a starting berth after he came off the bench to score a brace against Barnsley in midweek.

Tennai Watson featured as a half-time substitute in Tuesday's 2-2 draw, and he could be brought into the side to make his second league start of the season.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call upon Jack Marriott and George Evans due to leg and ankle injuries respectively.

Veteran striker Steven Fletcher is expected to miss the away trip after he sat out Tuesday's draw against Huddersfield with a knee issue.

Defender Max Cleworth remains a doubt for Saturday's fixture, having been absent from the last five matchday squads due to an ankle problem.

Charlton Athletic possible starting lineup:
Mannion; Edmondson-Green, Mitchell, Gillesphey; Watson, Berry, A. Campbell, Coventry, Edwards; Godden, Leaburn

We say: Charlton Athletic 2-2 Wrexham

Wrexham may be sitting in second place, but they have won only one of their last four away league games, and we think they may have to settle for a point when they face a Charlton side that have drawn their previous two matches against Stockport and Barnsley.
