A US naval ship deployed in the Black Sea as a security precaution for the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi has run aground at a Turkish port, according to Navy officials.

The USS Taylor, one of two ships sent, briefly ran ground on Wednesday at Samsun, where it was due to refuel.

There was no damage to the hull but the propeller blades sustained some damage, officials say.

Washington had sent the two ships in case of an emergency that would require the evacuation of Americans amid concerns about possible terrorist attacks as the Games.
