Greg Rutherford: 'Becoming a dad better than winning Olympic gold medal'

British long jump record holder Greg Rutherford says that becoming a father was better than winning the Olympic gold.

Greg Rutherford has said that winning the Olympic long jump gold medal "could not come close" to becoming a father for the first time.

The British record holder's partner Susie recently gave birth to their son, Milo Andrew William James Nugget Rutherford.

The 27-year-old told Hello: "The Olympic gold will always be the greatest thing that has ever happened to me in my athletics career, but nothing could come close to how happy I felt when I first saw Milo's lovely little face. I was crying my eyes out.

"Milo's already bringing me luck. He's in my thoughts when I'm going to jump and that brings a great deal more emotion. It's been wonderful to end the year on a high.

"William and James after our granddads, and Nugget is the name we gave him when Susie was first pregnant. We've even put it on the birth certificate."

Rutherford also won gold at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year.
