Manchester United's income falls as a result of Champions League absence

Manchester United announce that the club's income has dropped by 2.8% as a result of the club failing to qualify for the Champions League.

Manchester United have announced that the club's income has dropped due to the lack of Champions League football this season.

The Red Devils failed to qualify for the elite European tournament in the 2015-16 campaign, and as a result, the club's income has fallen by 2.8% to £3.2m.

The figures have been detailed in United's first quarter financial results to September 30, which also showed that matchday income has dropped by 32.3% to £16.8m.

United executive chairman Ed Woodward said in a statement: "Our financial results for this quarter reflect the impact of our non-participation in the UEFA Champions League."

With regards to commercial revenue, it is predicted that the club will rake in between £530m and £540m.
