Raphael Varane believes that Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has set the benchmark for all centre-backs to look up to.
The Real Madrid defender has broken into his club and country's starting lineup over the past year which has earned him mass plaudits.
The 20-year-old has been compared by many to the Brazilian, much to the delight of Varane himself.
"For the moment, he's the benchmark in my position, so the comparisons are flattering," Varane told reporters.
"I'm not a fan of comparisons, but it's true that I have a profile similar to his, whether it be in terms of our defending or playing the ball out, even if we don't have exactly the same style.
"I consider that I've got improvements to make, that I can still improve in a lot of areas."
Varane started for France in their 6-0 win over Australia on Friday.
