Preview: Port Vale vs. Peterborough United - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Port Vale and Peterborough United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Port Vale will attempt to end their six-game winless league run when they welcome Peterborough United to Vale Park on Tuesday.

In contrast to their hosts, the Posh are enjoying a promising run of form after avoiding defeat in their last seven matches in League One.

Port Vale put together a six-game unbeaten run to start the League One campaign, but after making a fast start, the Valiants have now ground to a halt.

Since beating Northampton 1-0 on September 16, Andy Crosby's side have gone on to pick up just two points from six league games.

They at least managed to end a run of three consecutive league defeats in Saturday's away trip to Stevenage, after the two sides played out a goalless draw to leave the Valiants in 14th position.

While they may have picked up a useful point at the weekend, Crosby will be concerned that his side have now failed to score in their last four matches in the third tier.

Hopes of ending their barren spell will be dampened by the fact that Port Vale have lost their last three head-to-head games against Peterborough without finding the net.

Meanwhile, Peterborough are currently sitting in fifth place after winning three and drawing four of their previous seven league games.

Despite adding another point to their tally in Saturday's clash with Wycombe, Posh would have been disappointed to miss out on a fourth consecutive home win.

They came from behind to take a 2-1 lead into the break thanks to efforts from Joel Randall and Ephron Mason-Clark, but the latter scored an unfortunate own goal in the second period, ensuring that the spoils were shared.

Posh will now head on their travels, where they have room to improve after failing to win any of their last four away league games.

If they can claim maximum points on Tuesday, it would represent their first away league victory since beating Barnsley 3-1 on August 15.

Team News

The hosts are unable to call upon Conor Grant and James Wilson, who are both expected to be sidelined for up to eight weeks with calf injuries.

Defender Alex Iacovitti is also sidelined with a calf problem, and remains a doubt for Tuesday's encounter after missing the last four matches.

Ryan Loft and Uche Ikpeazu both made their Port Vale debuts at the weekend, and the latter could be presented with his first start for the club on Tuesday.

As for Peterborough, Will Blackmore and Jeando Fuchs are sidelined through injury, while Malik Mothersille is also set to miss out, as he continues to work his way back to full fitness.

Jadel Katongo remains a doubt for the midweek away trip after he missed Saturday's draw with Wycombe due to a groin injury.

After dropping out of the lineup at the weekend, Kwame Poku could return to the starting XI for the midweek away trip.

Port Vale possible starting lineup:
Ripley; Lowe, Balmer, Smith; Sang, Arblaster, Ojo, Plant; Garrity, Chislett; Ikpeazu

Peterborough United possible starting lineup:
Bilokapic; Kioso, Knight, Edwards, Burrows; Collins, Kyrianou; Poku, Randall, Mason-Clark; Clarke-Harris

We say: Port Vale 1-2 Peterborough United

Peterborough have picked up victories on their last two trips to Vale Park, and with the Valiants experiencing a poor run of form, we think that Posh will claim another away victory over Port Vale on Tuesday.
