Chesterfield vs. Solihull - prediction, team news, lineups

A big clash in the National League this weekend sees promotion-chasing duo Chesterfield and Solihull Moors come head-to-head.

Both sides occupy places inside the top seven heading into the weekend's action, with Chesterfield themselves eyeing up an automatic spot.

Match preview

Alongside Wrexham and Notts County, Chesterfield were tipped to challenge for the National League title, having missed out on promotion last time around.

It has been a strong start to the campaign for the Spireites, who begin the weekend in third on 37 points.

Winners in 11 of their 18 matches so far, Chesterfield will be keen to extend their strong run of form at home on Saturday, having dropped points in just two of their seven outings.

However, it was on the road where Chesterfield stole the headlines last weekend, netting five during a dominant victory on the South coast away to Torquay United.

Set for a tougher fixture this weekend, Chesterfield face a Solihull side who knocked them out of the National League playoffs last time around.

Despite leading in the Midlands, the Spireites went onto lose against Solihull, who themselves fell short in the final against Grimsby Town.

As far as regular season matchups go, Solihull have enjoyed the best results in this fixture, winning three of the previous five National League matches.

Replicating that strong form could be a struggle for Solihull, who have dropped down the table following a difficult run of form.

Without a victory in six matches, Solihull have been forced to look over their shoulder, instead of eyeing up a position in the top three.

It is almost one month since Solihull last won a National League game and the hosts head into Saturday's meeting on the back of two league defeats.

Humbled by Dagenham & Redbridge last time out, Solihull need a drastic change of fortunes if they are to take points on Saturday.

Team News

Having netted seven goals for Solihull this season, Alex Reid will operate in attack for Solihull, with creativity coming from Joe Sbarra.

After shipping three against Dagenham, goalkeeper Ryan Boot will be keen for a quieter afternoon between the sticks.

Brother of Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin, Fiacre Kelleher will operate a spot in the Solihull defence.

Having suffered a season-ending injury last season, Kabongo Tshimanga has only played a bit-part role for Chesterfield so far, but the 25-year-old did get on the scoresheet during Saturday's win over Torquay.

Much of Chesterfield's good form this season has gone through summer-signing Armando Dobra and the ex-Ipswich man will once again provide a creative threat.

Chesterfield possible starting lineup:

Fitzsimons; Clements, Grimes, King, Williams; Dobra, Oldaker, Jones, Mandeville, Whelan; Quigley

Solihull Moors possible starting lineup:

Boot; Clarke, Jones, Kelleher, Coker; Storer, Whelan; Sbarra, Osborne, Barnett; Reid

We say: Chesterfield 3-1 Solihull Moors

Chesterfield will be viewing this match as a chance to make a statement over one of their fellow playoff-chasing opponents.

Out of form and desperate for a win, expect Solihull to struggle against a Chesterfield side beginning to pick up form.
