Football pundit Eamon Dunphy was left red faced after swearing during a discussion ahead of Brazil's World Cup Group A match against Mexico, without knowing that he was on air.

The 68-year-old was on the panel, alongside Dietmar Hamann, during RTE's coverage of the goalless draw between the hosts and Mexico in Fortaleza last night.

While referring to Neymar's penalty against Croatia last week, Dunphy said: "When Neymar was shaping up to take that penalty, I thought he was fucking dreading it."

Presenter Bill O'Herlihy apologised for the language used and swiftly reminded Dunphy that the cameras were rolling.

The former footballer has since apologised for the incident.
