Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez feels that his side's home form will be crucial in their fight against the drop.

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez feels that playing at the DW Stadium towards the end of the season is a tough proposition for visiting sides.

The Latics are currently 18th in the Premier League, six points adrift of safety.

Martinez told reporters: "We need to hit our best form and that is our focus.

"It is a big difference to play at the DW Stadium at this final time of the season where the whole environment is more intense and gives the players that extra yard and we need to take advantage of that."

Wigan face Newcastle United in the Premier League later today.
