Welcome to Sports Mole's live transfer deadline day blog.

Today is the day when Premier League and Football League clubs need to finalise their business by 6pm this evening.

Yesterday, the window closed for most clubs around Europe, but there is still time for English outfits to get deals over the line.

Premier League clubs have spent more than £700m on players so far in this window, but that figure could rise by this evening.

1.57amThank you all for joining us on this hectic final day of the transfer window, which has seen some major spending and a number of potentially season-changing acquisitions. This will not be all that we have to give you on the transfer front, however, as we will be back with a daily transfer update up until the January window opens next year. Take care for now!

1.55amWe will be leaving you with the news that this window has proven to be the richest in Premier League history, with spending topping £870m. You can read more on that story here.

1.52amThe Merseyside club also completed the signing of midfielder Ramiro Funes Mori, who has had this to say regarding his switch to the Premier League: "Everton did everything to bring me over and I wanted to come. They have a lot of good players so I'm very happy to be here. When I heard about Everton's interest, I didn't think twice and I'm going to give it 100% every time I go out there to play."

1.50amAaron Lennon finally completed his move to Everton after a successful loan spell at the club last season. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez has spoken highly of the club's new winger tonight: "He had a major role in the second half of our season and we're looking forward to Aaron kicking on and continuing to enjoy his football, as well as being the productive player we know he can be. He is well-respected in the dressing room, his experience in the Premier League is immense and he will immediately add to our squad and to the ambition we have as a club."

1.45amIn Italy, AC Milan midfielder Alessandro Matri wrapped up a loan switch to fellow Serie A side Lazio. The Italy international has claimed that he cannot wait to play for his new club.

1.40amSheffield United boss Nigel Adkins appeared to be a busy man tonight. He turned up to his side's Johnstone's Paint Trophy game late as he sought to conclude some business for the club. However, after the clash the manager revealed that the proposed deal had fallen through at the last minute.

1.35amSwansea City's Nathan Dyer completed a loan move to Leicester City this afternoon. The winger has since stated that he is ready to give his all for the Foxes as they aim to keep themselves in the Premier League come the end of the current campaign.

1.30amCharlie Austin's future has been all over the place this summer, with the frontman finally remaining at Queens Park Rangers for the rest of the Championship season. It has now emerged that the London club saw their striker turn down an offer from Crystal Palace today.

1.23amCeltic's new signing Ryan Christie has also been speaking about the completion of his move. The youngster has suggested that a switch to the Glasgow club was too good for him to turn down.

1.18amManchester United boss Louis van Gaal made the decision to ship out fan favourite Javier Hernandez yesterday. Real Madrid legend Hugo Sanchez has come out to criticise the United boss for his treatment of the Mexican striker following his penalty miss in United's clash with Club Brugge.

1.12amPreston North End's new striker Stevie May completed a move from Sheffield Wednesday on deadline day. The Scotland international has revealed that he is "ecstatic" having sealed the switch. You can read more from the frontman right here.

1.06amManchester United made a surprise swoop for Newport County youngster Regan Poole this evening. Poole's former coach Terry Butcher has said that the move will help give youth players confidence and hope that they can develop to reach the ranks of Europe's top clubs: "It's a great boost for the club, in terms of the academy, the first team and the area of Newport. The region produces a lot of good, young footballing talent. We are active in the transfer market and there will be options for us when the loan window re-opens again in a week's time. "There is a small legacy in many aspects that Regan has created, the money that he has generated could help to get other players and to give the younger boys that inspiration to possibly do what he's done one day."

1.00amWe have got a little more information from new Southampton signing Virgil van Dijk about his move from Celtic. The defender has stated that the prospect of playing in the Premier League was too good to turn down. Here is what he has had to say to Southampton's official website: "I'm delighted. It was a very easy decision to join this club. This is a very ambitious club, who have been doing very well in the last couple of years. It's a great place to be and it's the right step for me. "For me now to get the opportunity to play in the Premier League is unbelievable and I will enjoy it. I know it's an ambitious club – they have been through a lot throughout the years. They are trying to play football and that's something that really attracted me."

12.54amSome commentators are starting to push around the idea that a January move for David de Gea could falter given that Real and United have seemingly entered into a war of words over who was to blame for the breakdown of the goalkeeper's transfer. One thing is for sure, the Spaniard will have to return to Old Trafford after the international break. Will he be reintegrated into the squad? He is surely too good to sit on the bench for an entire season...

12.50amArsenal fans must be frustrated this evening, after they failed to add an outfield player during this window. Given that the club continuously turns a profit, some fans have hit out at Arsene Wenger's lack of spending. Here is what the Arsenal coach has had to say about the club's transfer and development policies: "We want to continue to combine stronger financial resources with faith in our philosophy and policy. That means we want to continue to give chances to young players and build players from inside our club with our culture. Afterwards, if we can buy the exceptional players, we can compete today but that will not be the basis of our policy."

12.45amThe Express is reporting that Manchester United's huge payout for Anthony Martial came as the club did not want to have to battle both Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain for the youngster's signature next summer.

12.40amDespite Bournemouth doing some impressive business recently, they club could be rocked by a trio of injuries. It is being reported by a number of sources that Max Gradel may miss up to six months with a torn knee ligament, while defenders Charlie Daniels and Tyrone Mings could also spend lengthy periods on the sidelines. I'm sure that there will be more on those stories come tomorrow.

12.37amJoey Barton had been offered to a few Premier League teams during the window. The midfielder eventually signed for Burnley, and has now suggested that his controversial image led a number of top-flight sides to turn down the chance to bring him onboard: "From time to time, people think it's Charles Manson or Fred West that is going to come into the building, but that's the ridiculous legacy I have, which is baffling. 'I think if you're a Premier League club, anyone from 10th downwards, and you had the opportunity to take me on a free transfer it's an absolute no-brainer. "But they are lazy, they don't do their homework so they tune into things you did in 2006, 2007, rather than look at what's going on, what you've done in the last three years, how your family circumstances have changed."

12.33amAccording to the Daily Star, a Manchester United insider has suggested that Real Madrid initially only offered £11.4m for David de Gea, before they were made to negotiate a £29m deal with the Old Trafford club that would eventually collapse before the Spanish transfer deadline.

12.30amNew Olympiacos frontman Brown Ideye has been doing a bit of social media work too. The striker used Twitter to thank West Bromwich Albion fans for their support after he completed his move to Greece yesterday:

12.24amThe format of the window has been criticised by a number of managers this summer. Norwich City midfielder Gary O'Neil has not been too impressed either. He had this to say a little earlier on Twitter:

12.19amA story from Turkish Football has proposed that Manchester United were looking to explore a late bid for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, who recently shone in the club's Champions League qualification decider against Lazio.

12.17amArsenal have been linked with a number of forwards this summer. Looking at tomorrow's papers, The Mirror is suggesting that the Gunners did not make the required £50m bid to land Edinson Cavani from PSG because the club did not believe that the player had any sell-on value.

12.15amThe late acquisition has also sparked comment from Hoops boss Ronny Deila, who has spoken with glowing colours about the club's new defensive arrival: "We are so pleased that Jozo is joining us at Celtic and I am sure he will be a great addition to our squad. He is a very talented young player and good on the ball, but he will also give us strength and stability in defence. I am sure he will be a success for us. I believe what we have done in the summer has given us a squad with real depth for the season ahead."

12.10amAs you will have seen, Celtic concluded a late deal for defender Simunovic before the midnight deadline. Here is what the young centre-back has had to say following his arrival at the club: "I am absolutely delighted to join Celtic. I know what a huge club I am joining, one of the biggest in Europe, and I know about its history and its great supporters. I can't wait to get started and join up with my new team and begin my career at Celtic. "I am looking forward to this move very much, I am desperate to get to Scotland and play at the famous Celtic Park. I know we have a lot to play for this season and there are many exciting times ahead, this is my reason for joining Celtic. I want to win things in my career and I think I can do this at Celtic. All I can promise the supporters is that I will be giving everything I have in every game to win and bring some good moments to our fans."

12.07amDespite missing out on John Stones, Chelsea completed the signing of promising Reading centre-back Michael Hector today. The 23-year-old took to Instagram a little earlier to reveal his delight and post this snap of himself posing with a Chelsea shirt:

11.59pmBradley Johnson made a switch from Norwich City to Derby County today. Here is a clip of the midfielder somehow managing to get the name of his new team wrong, referring to the Rams as "Derby City"...

11.55pmRetired midfielder and BBC pundit Danny Murphy is one of many former players who have spoken out about Berahino's situation at West Brom. Here's what the ex-Fulham man has had to say: "It will be very difficult for Saido Berahino but you have to toe the line and be professional and conduct yourself in the right way. I don't understand the logic of keeping him. West Brom have already got a replacement in [Solomon] Rondon. What is the advantage?"

11.51pmWe have had nothing more regarding those circulating rumours that Swansea striker Michu could move to Celtic. There are just eight minutes left of the Scottish window...

11.44pmMuch has been made of Berahino's situation today. A report in The Mirror this evening is suggesting that West Brom manager Tony Pulis is thought to be 'furious' that the club did not cash in on the want-away striker, who earlier took to Twitter to reveal that he never wants to play for chairman Jeremy Peace again.

11.41pmDONE DEAL! Some positive news for Motherwell fans. The Scottish club have managed to land Manchester United's Under-21 skipper Liam Grimshaw on loan until January.

11.36pmSouthampton did a bit of impressive business this morning after landing Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk. The Dutchman has since revealed that he has a huge respect for the Glasgow club, who he says did everything they could to try and keep him at Celtic Park: "Celtic did not want me to leave and wanted to extend my contract. The club did everything to keep me and I appreciate that, but I felt the time was right for a new challenge in the English Premier League. I thank everyone at Celtic, the manager and all the staff. Celtic is a brilliant football club. It will always be in my heart and I will always be a Celtic supporter myself."

11.32pmSunderland made their eighth summer signing earlier after bringing in Tottenham Hotspur and USA full-back DeAndre Yedlin. The American has since stated that he decided to move to the Stadium of Light after hearing glowing reviews of the club from his fellow USA teammates: "I'm delighted to be given the opportunity to play for a club with such great history. I've heard fantastic things about Sunderland and the supporters from Claudio Reyna and Jozy Altidore. Claudio speaks very highly of Dick Advocaat from his time at Rangers."

11.28pmDONE DEAL! We mentioned earlier that reports have suggested that Celtic were closing in on Dinamo Zagreb defender Jozo Simunovic. We can now confirm that deal has been completed, with the 21-year-old moving to Glasgow on a five-year contract.

11.25pmPapy Djilobodji made a life-changing switch to Premier League champions Chelsea earlier today. The young centre-back has been speaking about the transfer tonight. Here is what he has had to say, according to the Daily Star: "I'm very happy to sign for a big club like Chelsea and I want to do my best to help the team win titles. I want to thank the club for giving me this opportunity."

11.23pmDONE DEAL! Another Scottish development to bring you. St Johnstone's youngster George Hunter has gone out on a development loan deal to Airdrie until January.

11.21pmMadrid stopper Keylor Navas has clearly been put through the ringer today and it is being reported by several sources that Costa Rica's football federation have allowed the stopper to remain in Spain instead of travelling for international duty this weekend.

11.18pmA lovely touch from Glenn Murray this evening after making his move from Crystal Palace to Bournemouth on deadline day:

11.14pmHow must poor old David de Gea be feeling right about now, pretty miffed I reckon... Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos has opened up to talk about the summer's biggest transfer saga this evening by stating that life will go on and that the United stopper must focus on keeping up on his previous level of performances: "I have not talked to David and do not know his opinion, [but] life goes on. Nobody has died for this. He must maintain his level, he is one of the best keepers. "The world of football and signings is like this. Everyone tries to get the most and this is never easy for any player. He has had a bumpy summer because he has decided his future and that of his family. But it is something we have to go through at times, everyone has to understand the facts and do their best wherever they are."

11.11pmDONE DEAL! And another one, this time as St Johnstone reveal that 18-year-old midfielder Greg Hurst has signed a deal with the club until the end of the season.

11.08pmDONE DEAL! Hibernian have also concluded a piece of late business for themselves. The club have announced the signing of Henri Anier on a season-long loan from Dundee United. The 24-year-old Estonian striker has joined on the same day that fellow frontman Islam Feruz made his loan move across from Premier League outfit Chelsea.

11.06pmDONE DEAL! We have some news from Forfar Athletic, where Omar Kader has made a return to his former club having been released by Alloa Athletic just yesterday. The 29-year-old will go straight into Athletic's match-day squad at the weekend.

According to Sky Sports News, the 34-year-old was met by Villa ambassador Stylian Petrov at the airport but the former Spurs and Man Utd striker was unable to come close to agreeing personal terms.

10.30pmThierry Henry voiced his disappointment with Arsenal's failure to land another player after Petr Cech's signing, and Martin Keown agrees with his former teammate. Will Arsene Wenger regret not adding someone else to his squad? "I feel it's a missed opportunity - because the Premier League, without Manchester City there, is almost there for the taking. If you could put it together now and go on a run, then you can do something. Arsenal might go on a run anyway, but it's probably unlikely," Keown told BBC Sport.

10.23pmJoleon Lescott was one of the movers on transfer deadline day as he left West Brom for Aston Villa, and the centre-back is hopeful of settling in quickly at his new club.

"We now have a young, energetic squad but hopefully I can bring some experience and help it develop over the next few years," he told the club's website. "I've been lucky enough to play with Micah [Richards] both at Man City and with England. I know he can go on and be one of the best centre-halves."

10.18pmJose Enrique claimed that he was never given the chance to join West Brom today and has vowed to fight for his place at Liverpool. The Spanish full-back posted one final message to fans on Twitter before quitting social media this evening. "I thought it was good to share with the fans pictures but I think they have been killing me for that," he posted. "Ok, chao (sic) Instagram and Twitter. Focus on football and show myself again."

10.14pmHow does a 19-year-old react to moving to one of the biggest clubs in the world for £36m? Well, Anthony Martial insists that he is not affected by the pressure which comes with the transfer.

"I don't feel the pressure," Martial told the club's official website. "I know there is pressure but I'm ready for it," he told the club's website. "I spoke with the coach, Louis van Gaal, and I know that I need to work very hard. It's not easy to speak about myself but I am a very fast player. I hope that everything will go well for me at this club."

10.11pmDONE DEAL! Hearts are busy letting players leave this evening, with Queen of the South confirming the arrival of striker Gary Oliver for an undisclosed fee.

10.02pmHarry Redknapp was the man who brought Emmanuel Adebayor to Spurs and he enjoyed success with the Togolese striker leading his attack, but he is concerned about the direction his career is taking.

9.55pmIncredible figures being confirmed by the guys over at Deloitte.

9.50pmCarlos de Pena became Middlesbrough's 10th signing of the window earlier today, and Aitor Karanka is confident that he will quickly become a key player for the club after making the switch from Nacional. "Carlos will be a very good signing for us. Everyone is going to see that he is a very good player," the Boro boss told the club's website. "One of the biggest things is how much he wanted to join us. He told me from the first minute that he couldn't wait to start working with us and that is the main thing."

9.46pmThe biggest news from the last couple of days is the collapse of David de Gea's move to Real Madrid, but reports in Spain are claiming that the Man Utd goalkeeper will receive compensation from the La Liga club.

9.42pmDONE DEAL! It was confirmed earlier this evening that Kevin McHattie had left Hearts by mutual consent and Kilmarnock have now announced the signing of the defender on a three-year deal.

9.33pmClub legend Thierry Henry has admitted that he believes Arsenal should have signed more players in the summer window. Petr Cech was the only arrival and the Gunners are the only club in Europe's top five leagues to have not signed an outfield player in the summer.

"I think he should have tried to bring players and I think he did try, it could not happen, but I still think that team needed some players," Henry told Sky Sports News.

9.29pmDONE DEAL! Wigan have announced the signing of Andy Kellet from Bolton Wanderers on a three-year deal. The 21-year-old had spent time on loan at Manchester United at the end of last season.

9.26pmNapoli seemed to be battling to keep all of their key players this summer and the club's president, Aurelio De Laurent, has confirmed that Juventus failed with a bid to sign midfielder Marek Hamsik.

9.19pmCould there be some late movement in Scotland? The deadline for Scottish clubs is at midnight and rumours tonight are claiming that Michu, who has been told that he has no future with Swansea, has made the trip to Glasgow to hold talks with Celtic. Is there a deal in place, or is the gossip in overdrive with less than three hours remaining in the window?

9.14pmPhil Neville, living it up in the sun as Valencia's first-team coach, is ready to ignore all of the transfer gossip for a few months.

9.10pmRamiro Funes Mori and Aaron Lennon both arrived at Everton today, and Roberto Martinez is happy with the business done by the Toffees, whose most important decision may have been rejecting Chelsea's offers for John Stones.

"I feel really pleased about the way in which our business during this transfer window will allow us to carry on with the continuity in our squad and develop some of our young talent while adding some outstanding characters to the football club," Martinez told the club's website.

9.04pmCurtis Davies has been speaking about Jeremy Peace's decision to keep hold of Saido Berahino, who has threatened to go on strike after being prevented from joining Spurs. The former Baggies defender told BBC Radio 5 Live: "If Jeremy doesn't get the money he wants, he doesn't need to sell anyone to balance the books. I don't know what Saido's been told behind the scenes or if he's been told he can go if the offer reached a certain level. "But I had a scenario where I was told that I'd be allowed to leave if we didn't go up. I did manage to go, but it went all the way down to the wire on deadline day. I ended up going to Aston Villa"

8.55pmVictor Moses, who signed a four-year extension before joining West Ham on loan today, has revealed his delight after making the switch to the other side of the capital. Can the winger be a success at Upton Park? "I want to add my quality to what West Ham already have and hopefully we can do even better than last season. I am very pleased to work under the new manager [Slaven Bilic]. There is a huge amount of talent with Alex Song and Nikica Jelavic joining the club and I want to help the club finish as high up in the table as possible," he told the club's website.

8.48pmDONE DEAL! FIFA are not wasting time tonight. After it was revealed that Dortmund and Galatasaray struggled to push through a deal for Kevin Grosskreutz, the Turkish club have now been able to confirm the signing of the Germany international.

8.41pmDwight Gayle has proved that he can score goals in the Premier League and it seems incredible that he is still a Crystal Palace player after the speculation which has surrounded his future. A report has claimed that the Eagles pulled out of a deal to sell the striker to Norwich City earlier today.

8.33pmSome news from Germany now. Kevin Grosskreutz looks certain to be leaving Borussia Dortmund when it was revealed he was in talks with Galatasaray, but it has been confirmed that the deal was not completed before the deadline. Both clubs are now waiting to hear a final decision from FIFA.

8.27pmAndre Carrillo caught the eye with some impressive displays in the Champions League last season, and it has been reported that Leicester failed with two bids for the Sporting Lisbon winger before signing Nathan Dyer on loan. The second bid for Carrillo was reported to be worth close to £9m.

8.22pmIs Nathan Redmond not very happy with Norwich's business today?

8.17pmPerhaps one of the most surprising deals of the day was Norwich's decision to sell Bradley Johnson, who played such a key role in securing promotion last season. Derby are believed to have paid £6m for the midfielder with the fee possibly rising to £7m. Paul Clement is certainly a happy man.

"Being able to bring Bradley to Derby represents and major coup for the football club. As I have said before, the midfield position is one we have been trying to strengthen, not just with numbers but with quality, and Bradley certainly brings that in abundance," the Derby boss told the club's website.

8.12pmDONE DEAL! You'll remember that Michail Antonio and Victor Moses both arrived at West Ham earlier today, which ensured the opportunities on offer to Matt Jarvis would be reduced. Norwich have reacted to sign the winger on a season-long loan.

8.08pmDONE DEAL! One of the latest deals of the day has finally been confirmed. Tiago Ilori has joined Villa from Liverpool on a season-long loan and there an agreement in place for the move to be made permanent next summer.

8.06pmInteresting reports emerging about Mohamed Diame. Aston Villa are believed to have launched a late move for the midfielder, but Hull City were unable to come to terms over a price for the 28-year-old.

8.02pmOne man who did not make a move today was Abdoulaye Doucoure, who has confirmed that he is staying at Rennes after failing to agree personal terms with Watford. He was also rumoured to be a target for West Brom.

7.55pmResponding to the Berahino story, former West Brom defender Curtis Davies has tweeted: "Jeremy never loses! He gets his money or you stay put. #TrustMe."

7.51pmLewis Grabban has upset a few people at Norwich with his eagerness to leave the club in recent weeks, but he will be at Carrow Road for at least another few months. Reports have suggested that Bournemouth failed with two offers for the striker.

7.49pmDONE DEAL! It has been a move which was rumoured to be close for most of the day and Everton have finally confirmed the signing of Aaron Lennon on a three-year deal after he spent the second half of last season on loan at the club. The fee is reported to be close to £4.5m.

7.47pmDONE DEAL! Reading have announced the signing of Benfica winger Ola John on a season-long loan deal.

7.43pmIt must be considered a brilliant day for QPR, who have avoided selling Charlie Austin and Matty Phillips today. Chris Ramsey has told the club's website: "I think QPR have helped put players like Charlie and Matty on the map, and it's great to see them acting with such integrity and loyalty. "Obviously, from a professional point of view, you feel a little disappointed for them as all players want to play at the highest level possible, but they're in a great place here at QPR."

7.36pmDONE DEAL! Rotherham have been busy today and the double signing of Tony Andreu and Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe from Norwich on loan deals has been confirmed. Andreu will be with the club until January, while Odjidja-Ofoe signs on a one-month loan.

7.33pmIt has been reported that Spurs were keen to terminate Adebayor's contract today, but with over £5m remaining on the final year of his deal, the striker refused to walk away without compensation. An experienced player will be training with the youth team players for at least the next four months.

7.27pmUnited seem happy to keep De Gea for the final year of his deal and they are certainly not ready to take the blame for the collapse of the move. More from the statement: "Real Madrid didn't upload David's documents to the Spanish league in time, per reports it seems some 28 minutes after the deadline The fact that Manchester United filed the papers on time was acknowledged by the Football Association, who offered to support that claim in any discussions with FIFA. The Club offered this assistance, as well as its own timestamped documents to Real Madrid but they have chosen not to go down this route. "Manchester United acts appropriately and efficiently in its transfer dealings. The Club is delighted that its fan-favourite double Player of the Year, David de Gea, remains a Manchester United player."

7.26pmReal Madrid were quick to release a statement earlier today and they placed the blame on Manchester United after the David de Gea fell through last night. United have responded with a press release of their own. Here are the key points below. "Manchester United did not seek contact from Real Madrid for the sale of David. David is a key member of our squad and the club's preference was not to sell. No offer was received for David until yesterday. "At lunchtime yesterday, Real Madrid made its first offer to buy David. A deal was agreed between the clubs, which included Navas being transferred to Old Trafford. The deals were dependent on each other."

"We have a key player who has been very unsettled by antics which were designed to get him out of our club cheaply. Those tactics have continued despite my making our position clear in my first conversation with Daniel Levy on this subject in mid-August.
"I said selling Saido so late in the window was not on our agenda. Tottenham's offers failed substantially to reflect Saido's true value while the timing made no allowance for our own recruitment of a suitable replacement for a proven Premier League goalscorer.

The AST would like the club to review its scouting and playing purchasing arrangements. If they believe all is well they should reflect on what the point is of a football club.

6.23pmDONE DEAL! Sticking with the lower leagues, Swindon striker Michael Smith has joined fellow League One club Barnsley on loan until January.

6.21pmDONE DEALS! Preston have struggled in front of goal a little this season, but they have looked to rectify that with the double signing of Stevie May from Sheffield Wednesday on a three-year deal and Eoin Doyle on a season-long loan from Cardiff.

6.18pmSpeaking of that Bradley Johnson deal, it is one that certainly took us by surprise. Derby are understood to have spent £6m on the midfielder, with that fee potentially rising to £7m. Johnson was Norwich's Player of the Year last season as they sealed a return to the Premier League, so Canaries fans will not be happy to see the back of him. What a signing for Derby, though.

6.17pmDONE DEAL! We've heard that Derby have significantly strengthened their ranks with the signing of Bradley Johnson, and promotion rivals Middlesbrough have looked to do the same. They have announced the signing of Carlos de Pena on a three-year deal.

6.15pmDONE DEAL! Another loan from the Premier League as West Ham full-back Sam Westley has joined VVV-Venlo until the end of the season.

3.33pmMore than £813m has been spent this summer, and we're on course for the most expensive transfer window ever. Anthony Martial to Manchester United is expected to boost that further in the coming hours, but so far the biggest deal of deadline day has been Van Dijk to Southampton for £11.5m.

The Nigerian's impending arrival means that West Ham will have their loan quota filled, which indicates that Adebayor can only join the London club on a permanent transfer.

8.12amDEA GEA UPDATE: Following last night's paperwork mishaps, Real Madrid have now reportedly appealed to FIFA in order to push through their deal to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea. The Spanish giants are said to have agreed to pay £29m and hand over Keylor Navas as part of the deal, but the paperwork was not finalised by last night's midnight deadline. It seems as though Madrid are determined to sort out the issues, but it does not look hopeful. What does that mean for De Gea? Will he resume his place as United's number one goalkeeper? Remember, manager Louis van Gaal has not selected the shot-stopper at all this season so far.

8.07amEarlier this morning, West Ham United confirmed the signing of Alex Song on a season-long loan. The Barcelona midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Upton Park, has been speaking about his return to the club's official website. "I am very happy. For me it was very important to come back because when I was here I had a great rapport with the fans and the club. It was a very easy choice for me to come back here and I'm very happy to be here."

According to The Mirror, Marcos Rojo's future at Old Trafford is in doubt due to a rumoured bust-up with manager Louis van Gaal. The Argentine, who failed to show up for United's pre-season tour following the Copa America, has not featured at all this season so far. In the last few days, United have offloaded Jonny Evans, Adnan Januzaj, Javier Hernandez and Anders Lindegaard, while David de Gea's future remains uncertain. Could Rojo be added to that list?

7.06amEverton have done well (so far) in keeping Chelsea target John Stones, and the Toffees are expected to add another defender to their ranks today. The Mirror reports that Ramiro Funes Mori will finalise a £6m switch from River Plate to Goodison Park at some point today after receiving a work permit. A deal was agreed last week, but both parties were just waiting on the Home Office.

7.02amEmmanuel Adebayor has been mentioned on occasion during this summer transfer window. The Togolese forward has dropped down the pecking order at Tottenham Hotspur and has been linked to West Ham United, Aston Villa and even Manchester United! The Hammers were favourites to land Adebayor, but the 31-year-old was not thought to be keen on switching to Upton Park. According to the Daily Mail, the striker may have had a change of heart and a loan move to West Ham is back on!

6.59amOn Monday afternoon, Sunderland completed the signing of Fabio Borini from Liverpool. It appears as though the Black Cats are returning to Anfield this morning as they reportedly try to agree a loan deal for defender Tiago Ilori. The 22-year-old, who moved to Merseyside in 2013, is yet to make a competitive appearance for Liverpool.

6.49amDE GEA UPDATE: There has been no official word from either club regarding the status of David de Gea's move to Real Madrid. We know from various reports that the paperwork was not finalised in time. According to Sky Sports News, United have said that their half of the work was sent through before last night's midnight deadline, and AS reports that it was Madrid officials who submitted their paperwork 28 minutes after the cutoff point. In normal circumstances, this would indicate that the deal is dead, but you never know, these complications are sometimes resolved.

6.46amPremier League new boys Watford recruited a handful of players at the start of the window, but it appears that they want to welcome another. The Watford Observer reports that Roma forward Victor Ibarbo is due to undergo a medical today ahead of a loan move. However, complications in the transfer could arise as the player is only at Roma on a temporary basis from parent club Cagliari.

6.39amAs mentioned earlier, Arsenal have basically been non-existent in the transfer market in the last month or so, but with many suggesting that the team need a new attacking player, will there be a late arrival at the Emirates? According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners have held talks with Paris Saint-Germain duo Edinson Cavani and Adrien Rabiot.

Newspaper reports have claimed that Spurs will make a move for the Senegal midfielder within the next few hours. With Tottenham having been linked to numerous players, including Victor Wanyama and Saido Berahino, this could be a busy day at White Hart Lane!

6.24amIt's been a very quiet transfer window for Arsenal as they have only signed goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea. Will Arsene Wenger get his wallet out today? That remains to be seen, but The Mirror have reported that a certain Arsenal player has attracted interest from Galatasaray. It is believed that the Turkish outfit are preparing a late bid for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Spaniard was rumoured to be closing in a switch to Besiktas after manager Louis van Gaal criticised him publicly. However, yesterday it emerged that the deal had fallen through, and now, Valdes has indicated that he is staying put after he uploaded United's club crest and selected it as his cover photo on Facebook...

6.13amManchester United have been very busy in the last 24 hours, with plenty of outgoings in particular. Another man who could be on his way out of Old Trafford is young striker James Wilson. According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion are keen to sign him on a season-long loan deal. Should Wilson depart, that would mean that United currently have just Wayne Rooney as an option up front. However, the Red Devils are believed to be in talks over the £36m capture of Monaco forward Anthony Martial.

6.10amChelsea outcast Victor Moses is expected to be on the move again as he seeks a loan move. Yesterday, it was widely reported that the Nigerian would join West Ham United on loan, but now, the Daily Mail are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing him on a temporary basis. In order to make room for Moses, the report adds that Spurs will send Aaron Lennon to West Ham.

6.03amSo, let's kick things off with news about David de Gea's future. Yesterday, it seemed as though the Spaniard was on the verge of moving to the Bernabeu in a £29m deal, which would involve Keylor Navas going to Old Trafford. However, according to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, the transfer fell through as Madrid did not get the paperwork completed before the midnight deadline. Does that mean that De Gea will be a United player for the rest of the season? Or will the deal somehow go through? Hopefully we'll find out today!
