Preview: Pakistan vs. Jordan - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Thursday's World Cup Qualifying - Asia clash between Pakistan and Jordan, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Pakistan and Jordan will be looking to get their World Cup qualifying journeys up and running when they face off at Jinnah Stadium on Thursday.

Both teams suffered defeat in their respective last outings and now go in search of a much-needed victory to help get themselves back on track.

Match preview

Pakistan were beaten for the 15th time in 17 matches across all competitions as they fell to a 6-1 defeat against Tajikistan when the sides went head-to-head on November 21.

After conceding quickfire goals to Amadoni Kamolov and Rustam Soirov, Stephen Constantine's men pulled one back through Rahis Nabi before strikes from Parvizdzhon Umarbaev, Ehsoni Panshanbe, Kamolov and Shakhrom Samiev sealed the deal.

Consequently, the Falcons are yet to pick up a point in their World Cup qualifying race and remain bottom of Group G heading into the third round of games.

Next up is the challenge of an opposing outfit who came out on top in the two previous editions of this fixture by a combined score of 8-1, although both clashes came as far back as 1993.

Having shipped 11 goals across their last three matches on home turf, Thursday's hosts will need to keep things tight at the back to stand any chance of securing a positive result in front of their fans.

Jordan just about came up short in their pursuit of Asian Cup glory following a 3-1 defeat to host nation Qatar in the final on February 10.

Hussein Ammouta's men fell behind to Akram Afif's 22nd-minute opener but managed to restore parity midway through the second half thanks to Yazan Al-Naimat before a pair of second-half penalties from Afif decided the game.

That brought an end to a three-game winning streak for the Chivalrous Ones who have, however, endured a relatively underwhelming World Cup qualifying campaign with just one point on the board from two matches so far.

In the first of two crunch six-pointers against their hosts five days apart, Thursday's visitors will be keen to get off to a good start in the final international break of the season.

Team News

Pakistan's Rahis Nabi opened his international account at the 12th time of asking last time out and will be looking to pick up where he left off.

Seventeen-year-old Adeel Younas could be in line to make his debut for the hosts having received his first international call-up to the senior team.

Jordan record goalscorer Hamza Al-Dardour has been left out of his nation's 25-man squad and will not get the chance to add to his 35 strikes.

Having netted five times in his last nine games leading up to this one, 24-year-old Yazan Al-Naimat is definitely one to keep an eye on here.

Pakistan possible starting lineup:
Butt; Hayat, Iqbal, Khan, Sadam; Nabi, Hamid, Uzair; Khan, Kayani, Ullah

Jordan possible starting lineup:
Abulaila; Haddad, Al-Arab, Al-Ajalin, Shelbaieh; Al-Mardi, Ayed, Al-Rawabdeh, Rateb; Al-Taamari, Al-Naimat

We say: Pakistan 1-3 Jordan

Pakistan have struggled in front of goal recently, but we can see them finding the back of the net here, albeit en route to a comprehensive defeat come the end of the 90 minutes.
