Transfer news and rumours: Newcastle want ex-PL winger, Palace eye £25m midfielder

The brand new 2026-27 Premier League season is underway, while the summer transfer window is gradually approaching its climax, meaning clubs are becoming busier than ever in the market.

With several big-money moves and important deals beginning to take shape, Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer stories, rumours and developments doing the rounds this morning.

Newcastle United battle for former Chelsea attacker?

This has been a massive transfer window for the Magpies, who have lost several big-name players, including Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

Six new players have arrived at St James' Park, but more signings are expected in the final few days of the summer window, with strengthening the attack a priority.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle are in direct contact with AC Milan over a move for Christopher Nkunku.

Nkunku joined Milan from Chelsea last summer and scored eight goals in 35 appearances across all competitions for the Serie A giants.

RB Leipzig are also reportedly keen to re-sign their former attacker, who is widely expected to leave AC Milan before the summer transfer window closes.

Crystal Palace eye move for new midfielder?

The Eagles have made five new additions this summer, including the arrival of Dwight McNeil from Everton.

Having already bolstered their defence, Crystal Palace are now reportedly looking to strengthen their midfield before the summer transfer window closes.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Palace have made an approach to sign Auxerre midfielder Kevin Danois.

The 22-year-old is a product of Auxerre's youth academy, and the Eagles would reportedly need to pay around £25m plus add-ons to secure his signature.

It will be interesting to see whether Danois's potential arrival has any bearing on the future of Adam Wharton, who has been linked with a move away from Selhurst Park.

Celtic in talks to sign new midfielder

The Scottish champions are reportedly looking to sign a new midfielder this summer as they aim to fill the void left by Arne Engels.

According to Sky Sports News, the Bhoys are in talks to sign Slovan Liberec midfielder Ermin Mahmic.

The 21-year-old impressed during the 2026 World Cup, where he scored two goals for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The report claims that the two clubs are discussing a potential £7m deal, with a further £1.5m in add-ons, to secure his signature.

Mahmic has three years remaining on his contract, and talks are reportedly progressing well, with only the structure of the deal still being negotiated.
