Arne Slot reveals Alexander Isak injury timeline as Liverpool boss delivers quintuple update before Wolves

"A long injury" - Slot reveals Isak timeline in quintuple Liverpool update

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has delivered a loose timeline on Alexander Isak's recovery from a serious leg injury sustained in the weekend's victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

The Reds' record signing was once again overlooked for a spot in the starting XI for that 2-1 win in North London, as the in-form Hugo Ekitike led the line following his brace in the 2-0 success over Brighton & Hove Albion the previous weekend.

Isak was introduced for the second half in place of the injured Conor Bradley, though, and the Sweden international soon made his presence felt with the opening goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, Isak's third goal for the Premier League champions came at a significant cost, as he sustained a severe leg injury owing to a tackle from Micky van de Ven, and he had to be helped off the pitch by medical staff.

After reports claimed that Liverpool were concerned about the seriousness of his injury, the club confirmed that he had undergone an operation on a fibula fracture, with no timeline placed on his recovery.

Liverpool injury news: Arne Slot gives Alexander Isak timeline

Ahead of Saturday's Premier League showdown with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Slot revealed that Isak would spend at least a couple of months on the sidelines, meaning that he will miss clashes against the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United and Manchester City.

"It's going to be a long injury," the Liverpool boss told the media. "A couple of months. That's a big big disappointment for him, and of course also for us."

Slot was also asked about how Isak's injury would impact January window plans amid Antoine Semenyo links and Mohamed Salah uncertainty, but the Dutchman was loath to discuss the prospect of incomings or outgoings.

"My first and only thoughts are on the upcoming two games, two difficult ones," Slot added. "It's a time for the players we do have available to do what they’ve done so may times, to roll their sleeves up, and our fans as well."

Isak was one of two casualties of the last Liverpool game, as the man he replaced - injury-plagued right-back Bradley - was withdrawn at half time owing to a new knock.

Joe Gomez (hamstring), Wataru Endo (ankle), Giovanni Leoni (ACL) and Cody Gakpo (muscle) also watched on helplessly over the weekend, but Slot confirmed that the latter and Bradley are both in with chances of featuring on Saturday.

"Con will be 50/50," Slot added. "He's not training today, not tomorrow, Friday we will see where he exactly is. Joe won't be available, Wata won't be available, Cody similar to Conor."

As well as Gomez, Endo, Leoni, Isak and Salah, Slot will have to cope without Dominik Szoboszlai against Wolves, as the Hungarian picked up his fifth yellow card of the Premier League season against Spurs.

Federico Chiesa and Rio Ngumoha are both options to replace Szoboszlai on the right wing, where Jeremie Frimpong could also be handed an opportunity if either Bradley or Calvin Ramsay are given the nod at right-back.
