Premier League club 'fined for paying staff less than minimum wage'

Premier League club 'fined over staff pay'

A Premier League club has reportedly been fined by HM Revenue and Customs for paying staff below the minimum wage.

It is believed that the unnamed top-flight club ordered hospitality workers to pay for their own uniforms, and also docked pay for travelling time.

According to the Daily Mail, the club will have to pay arrears of more than £27,500 to around 3,000 members of staff.

TUC general secretary Frances O'Grady is quoted as saying: "The penalties won by HMRC, which the government are rightly making even bigger, should be a clear deterrent to any bad bosses thinking about short-changing their staff."

The minimum wage is £6.31 per hour.
