Female referee Salome Di Lorio is taken to hospital as a precaution after she was knocked to the ground when a ball whacked her in the face during a match in Argentina.

Female referee Salome Di Lorio was reportedly taken to hospital after getting whacked in the face with a ball during a match in Argentina last weekend.

The match official was overseeing a game between Liniers and Centro Espanol when she was knocked to the ground as the ball smashed into her face from a free kick.

Players and medics rushed to the aid of Di Lorio, who walked off the pitch and was taken to hospital as a precaution, according to the Daily Mail.

The 34-year-old, who also works as a lawyer, has not suffered any long-term damage.
