Zimbabwe expelled from qualifying for 2018 World Cup

FIFA expels Zimbabwe from qualifying for the 2018 World Cup after their federation failed to pay coach Jose Claudinei Georgini.

FIFA has announced that Zimbabwe have been expelled from qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia due to a pay dispute.

The football federation of the national side has been punished after failing to pay coach Jose Claudinei Georgini.

A statement from the world governing body read: "The expulsion comes as a result of the non-payment of an outstanding debt by ZIFA (the Zimbabwe Football Federation) to the coach Jose Claudinei Georgini following a decision passed on August 15, 2012 by the FIFA Players' Status Committee."

The 67-year-old manager was given the coaching role back in 2008.
