Preview: West Ham United Women vs. Tottenham Hotspur Ladies - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Women's Super League clash between West Ham United Women and Tottenham Hotspur Ladies, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

West Ham United Women will welcome Tottenham Hotspur Ladies to the London Stadium on Saturday for the final game of the 2022-23 Women's Super League season.

The Hammers head into the weekend in eighth place in the WSL table, while Tottenham are three points adrift in ninth position.

After going 10 WSL games without a win, West Ham would have been in low spirits ahead of Sunday's away meeting with Leicester.

However, the Hammers would have left the King Power Stadium in a far better mood after claiming a 2-1 victory over the Foxes.

West Ham established a two-goal lead courtesy of a Sophie Howard own goal and a Dagny Brynjarsdottir penalty, and while Hannah Cain halved the deficit in stoppage time, the Hammers managed to see out the encounter to clinch their first league win of 2023.

Although they would have been relieved to claim all three points last weekend, West Ham have been unable to match last season's top-half finish.

The Hammers, who will finish in eighth place if they avoid defeat on Saturday, will be looking to record consecutive league wins for just the second time this season.

Tottenham will head into the final game in a buoyant mood after they confirmed their WSL safety with a commanding 4-1 win over basement side Reading last weekend.

A Beth England brace as well as goals from Celin Bizet and Kit Graham helped Spurs end a five-game winless run with a comfortable victory.

With their place in the WSL secured for another season, there may be a tendency for Tottenham to take their foot off the gas for the final game of the season, but interim boss Vicky Jepson will be challenging her side to claim successive WSL victories for the first time this season.

Picking up all three points may be easier said than done, though, as Spurs have lost seven straight away league games since thrashing Brighton & Hove Albion 8-0 in October.

If they can record their third away win of the WSL season then Tottenham will replace Saturday's opponents in eighth position due to their superior goal difference.

Team News

Jess Ziu has been sidelined since October with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, and the midfielder remains unavailable for the final game of the season.

After ending their winless run with a narrow victory over Leicester last weekend, West Ham boss Paul Konchesky could be tempted to name an unchanged lineup.

With six league goals to each of their names, Brynjarsdottir and Vivianne Asseyi have scored over half of West Ham's 21 league goals this season, and they will be hoping to add to their respective tallies on Sunday.

As for Tottenham, they are still unable to call upon Ellie Brazil and Kyah Simon, who continue to recover from anterior cruciate ligament injuries.

After coming off the bench to score Tottenham's fourth goal against Reading, Graham is set to be brought into the starting lineup.

Since joining Spurs in January, England has scored 10 goals in 11 league appearances, and she will be looking to continue her impressive form in the final game of the season.

West Ham United Women possible starting lineup:
Arnold; Shimizu, Fisk, Parker, Tysiak; Brynjarsdottir, Hayashi; Asseyi, Snerle, Denton; Thestrup

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies possible starting lineup:
Spencer; Neville, Turner, Bartrip, Harrop; Bizet, James, Spence, Ayane; Graham, England

We say: West Ham United Women 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur Ladies

West Ham would have taken confidence from their win over Leicester, and we think that they will claim another victory when they face a Tottenham side that have lost their last seven away league games.
