Troy Deeney: 'Win over Middlesbrough only important if we go up'

Watford striker Troy Deeney believes that the team's win over Middlesbrough will not be remembered if they do not secure promotion to the Premier League.

Troy Deeney has said that Watford's win over Championship promotion rivals Middlesbrough will only be remembered if the team go up this season.

The striker opened the scoring in the 2-0 win at Vicarage Road this afternoon, becoming the first player to score 20 goals for Watford in three straight seasons.

The 26-year-old told Sky Sports News: "It's never been done and if I stop playing now no-one can take it away from me. Love me or hate me that's mine. This win will only be remembered if we go up."

The result moved Watford back to the top of the table ahead of this afternoon's kickoffs.
